Your views about indifference/ acceptance to friend requests in social media

Social media has become an integral part of our lives. It is a place not only for passing time, but some people are even sharing their personal matters and problems in it seeking help and suggestions. Almost everyone is spending some time in social media. People often like or appreciate other posts and comments also and many reciprocate the congratulatory or other such messages.

Sometimes due to differences or other reasons some people become selective and they do not respond or comment or appreciate posts of some close friends and relatives and it becomes apparent that they have a disliking or they do not want to communicate with a particular person or a group of persons.

Has it ever happened with you that you wanted to communicate but from the other side there was no response or you became indifferent to a close friend or relative who was trying to catch up with you in social media? How do you feel about such relationships in social media? Does it hurt you? Or you take it lightly and ignore it?

I know a family in Hyderabad. He is a retired employee. He has a daughter and her husband is also in Hyderabad. I don't know the exact reason but both father-in-law and son-in-law are not on good terms. Only daughter will be coming to her parent's house once in a while. This father-in-law and son-in-law pair started a war of postings on social media. Their differences and the reasons for differences came out because of this war on social media. Now even the daughter also stopped coming to her parents' house. Thus this social media widened the gap between the families. Thus social media is not only helping us to come in contact with our old friends but also useful to widen the enmities also, I feel.
I have never so far personally faced any such situation on any social media platform. Of course, I spend very little time on social media and I have no Twitter or Instagram account. In my opinion, one should like or dislike a post based on the content of the post but not on the person who contributed the same.

When we are active in social media then we are not face to face with our friends, relatives, and other people whom we know only in the virtual field. One advantage of this virtual space relationship is that one can ignore or confront people as per one's wish as no physical contact is there and one can always make excuses about anything in a twisted form later. So, what is happening in social media today is that people are ignoring others with whom they have difference of opinion or unbearable conflict or confrontation. Mostly these things happen during political discussions.
Hence, social media is a place where people develop affinities as well as enmities.

    Knowledge is power.
