Agnikul Cosmos Private Limited has launched on 30th May 2024 its first rocket - Agnibaan

Chennai-based space start-up Agnikul Cosmos Private Limited has launched on 30th May 2024 its first rocket Agnibaan (Sub Orbital Technology Demonstrator) from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota. This is the India's second privately developed rocket and first semi-cryogenic engine powered rocket developed in Tamil Nadu.

There are many firsts to it as this will be India's first launch from a private launchpad, India's first semi-cryogenic engine powered rocket launch, and the world's first single piece 3D printed engine designed and built in India.

Agnikul Cosmos was founded in 2017 by Srinath Ravichandran, Moin SPM, and Satya Chakravarthy. They signed an agreement with Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) under the IN-SPACe initiative to have access to the space agency's expertise and its facilities to build Agnibaan.

Congratulations to these private entrepreneurs for executing such projects and bringing the private space sector of India on the map of space research.

This is a welcome information from the author. Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has started encouraging private partnerships in the space field also. Many startups are coming and trying to showcase their skills in that sector. SHAR is like an airport for the rockets carrying satellites to take off. This organisation is encouraging private parties to design their satellites and they are launching these satellites into space using their launch pads. This makes way for ISRO to earn money also. ISRO launched some satellites of other countries also and earned good foreign exchange.
Recently I met a promoter of such one space industry from Bangalore which is operating as a start-up using the IISC lab for their design. They are trying to get their factory and they started the process. I think many such industries are coming and in the coming days, we will see an increase in numbers.

Vikram-S was the India's first privately built rocket and was launched on 18th November 2022 from Sounding Rocket Complex, Sriharikota. It was designed and developed by Skyroot Aerospace.
It was a single stage rocket having a height of 6 meters and weight about 545 kg. It went upto a distance of about 90 km in space. This launch program was assisted by ISRO and IN-SPACe (Indian National Space Promotion and Authorisation Centre).
This rocket launch mission was nicknamed as 'Prarambh', a Hindi word meaning beginning.
The rocket was named after Vikram Sarabhai, who is considered as the father of India's space programme.

The present launch is the second such attempt in private space sector and is an indication of further growth in this area and we can hope that private sector in India will also achieve more success in this niche area opening possibilities of Indian space travel in future.

    Knowledge is power.
