Why not combine courses with job-orientation?

Tourism is a big revenue earner for several States like Kerala, most of North East and Punjab, among others. We need to understand that we need thousands of trained personnel to handle several positions related to tourism. Yet, we find self-trained tourist guides. Courses are few and far between.

Why not make tourism internship compulsory for BA and MA history students? Even Sociology can have a similar internship in some research institute as a compulsory requirement. At the moment, very few schools have Sociology as a subject in the plus two stage. Now, what will happen if we there are more students interested in Sociology?

We need to really throw open the doors to innovation. At the moment, there is hardly any innovation in the Arts and Social Science Courses. In fact, we need to totally revise the syllabus and content of hundreds of such courses. We cannot allow the hit and miss traditional approach towards the undergraduate courses.

An internship is something like on-the-job training. A student who does an internship on a shop floor will get the feel of the working atmosphere. He will develop skills that are required for him to perform a particular job. That is why there is a big hue and cry about these internships nowadays. These internships are made compulsory for many technical qualifications. In addition, students are showing interest in these internships.
As mentioned by the author, if all courses are combined with internships, the students will get the advantage of having a feel of the kind of job they will perform in their career. So that will become an advantage for them, Hence it is wise to integrate courses with job-oriented skills. Anyhow this aspect has been discussed many times on this forum.

This aspect we have discussed a few times and job related courses and job orientation is one of the main thing that has to be taken up on priority. Already there are many technical certification courses which are helping people to start their own work by providing the services to the customers. There are a large number of short courses available online as well as in physical classes in the institutes and people can take advantage of that. Some people are doing multiple short courses for increasing their chances of getting a job.
Every area today from tourism to journalism is full of scope for work and appropriate training and short courses can help people for getting a job or start a self employment platform.
Simple academic degrees have become a basic qualification today and we have to top up them with job oriented learnings through short or medium length courses in various subjects.

    Thoughts exchanged is knowledge gained.

Author has expressed his opinion for enlargement of some courses and include the practical and job oriented aspects in them. I think it is a good thought. I also understand that many educational institutions are modifying their courses as per the need of the aspiring young people as well as the need of the industry. However, they are taking much time in that may be the process of changing or modifying the syllabus is like that only.
Private institutions might be doing it faster than the Govt because of the obvious reasons of red tape and other bottlenecks in the Govt sector.
Some online agencies are quick to adapt to these changes which are related to career making of the students and the people interested in that way might search the reputed online teaching sites for that very purpose.
Apart from tourism there are some other areas of interest in this respect like insurance, stock market, event management, etc.
A good amalgamation of job oriented learning with the main parent course will definitely bring improvements and will be beneficial for the young people in their job hunting efforts.

    Knowledge is power.

Considering the shortage of employment - opportunities, the structure of the different courses should be designed in such a fashion that the students immensely benefit from the inclusion of job orientation modules. This point becomes all the better considering the shortage of job - prospects in the market.
There are plenty of demands of electricians, fitters, draughtsmen, painters and many more such courses which will help the youths to gain employment. However, the aspirants cannot continue such practical courses along with their current courses since there is not such provision in the current situation.
The author has rightly stated that such job - providing courses will ultimately be of great help to the job - seekers.

The world is changing at a fast speed and the needs vary from time to time. Today everybody is looking at AI and ML. But tomorrow something else may come. So courses should be designed in such a way that a student coming out of college can meet today's requirements as well as tomorrow's requirements. That is the need of the hour. There should be flexibility for the students in choosing their options. This was addressed to some extent in many countries and even in India. But still a long to go.
