We need not to remember everything!

Human memory is said to be a marvelous architecture of nature. It is huge and can store a lot of information. Many experts tell us that there is no limit to the memory of our brains.
Coming to the point, there are so many things happening in our lives and important tasks that we do and many most important things that we should remember. All this makes a huge bundle of information and data that we feel to remember. But is there a need to remember everything? I think we should only remember some important things and ignore the junk that is continuously being faced by us in our lives. Ignoring junk means that either we forget those things quickly or keep in brain only for a short time and then getting it replaced by better and important things.
What do you think about this? Does it happen automatically or we have to do some efforts for this? Do you manage your memory like that? Please share your views.

Not necessarily, we need to remember everything happening in our lives. There are a lot of events taking place in our daily activities which would simply distract our minds with negative emotions we need not remain preoccupied with such shoving affairs. The early we come out from such phases it will enhance our positive energy.
We have to make a prudent plan on how best we can utilise our activities for the purposeful assignments. Even if we are following such a schedule, we can observe some scenes which could divert our mindset momentarily. In such conditions, we need to think of its negative consequences and try our best to remember our schedules which would make our goal purposeful.

Many people note down the important things, schedules, and events on a paper or in electronic notepad so that from time to time they can refer that and nothing important misses from their activities.
On the other hand some people keep important things in their memory and make sure that they do not forget it.
Human mind is a very complex structure. It has a magnificent memory storage and a system of keeping and segregating important things from the unimportant. When we pressurise our minds for remembering a matter then that stimulus forces and pushes back the unimportant things and gives preference to important ones.
We only think about these things and they happen in the back of our minds with precision and utmost accuracy.

    Thoughts exchanged is knowledge gained.

What to remember and what not to remember? Is there any choice for us? Is there any mechanism? I have no answers to these questions and learned members can share their knowledge with us. What I want to remember may be forgotten easily. What need not be remembered will be forgotten easily. This is the problem I face many times. I generally never depend on my memory. So I keep a note of things that are to be carried out by me and also I will keep a note of what I read on that day. They all will be available on my laptop.
We remember a movie story better than our subject. We remember the cinema story which we saw 5 or 6 months back also but we never remember what we read yesterday. If we have to remember something we should keep that in mind by remembering the same many times. If it is not required just once we can read and then need not repeat. Our mind may have its methodology in keeping some information in some files and sending the other information to the waste bin in our mind.

Dr Rao has raised a very interesting query whether it is in our hands to remember certain things and forget others.
There is no simple and straight answer for that but there are some basic concepts regarding it and we can discuss them.

Human memory is very selective and it tries to remember those things which are in the favour or benefit of the person. For example a student will try to remember the answers to so many questions because it helps him to score more.
A doctor remembers the names of so many medicines as it helps him to write the prescription quickly.
It is also said that things related to one's passion, interest, and liking also remain in our minds for longer times as compared to the activities in which we do not have interest.
Next thing is repetition. More we repeat more deeply it sits in our minds. Every person does not have same memory and that is why some people have to repeat more number of times as compared to others who can memorise the things in less number of repetitions.

    Knowledge is power.

Though the raised point is good in one way, it is not correct always . Moreover, nowadays because of the usage of mobile phones many people forget or even to wear watches to see time. When some one ask time on the road or bus we have to see the mobile to say time. In mobile also, we are not storing the names and telephone numbers properly and when we get a call from one person by seeing number only, either we ask the calling person's name or puzzling ourselves who is calling.
But some people are very strong in memory. My brother in law tell the calling person by seeing the number on mobile screen. But I used to get confused if any one asked my mobile number itself.
So, Memory power is a gift to one and it should be availed well.
