Are the housewives in your family or neighbourhood using UPI mode for payments?

People are gradually becoming familiar with UPI payments and using their mobiles for making payments on the go. It is a convenient way of making payments and money is directly deducted from the linked bank account.
Now my question is whether ladies in the families are well aware of this mode and using it for payments or instead using cash or waiting for the male members to do it. I understand that women who are going out for a job are using this mode but what about the housewives? Are the housewives in your family or neighbourhood using this mode for payments? Are they well versed with these UPI apps? In my acquaintance only a few housewives are using it. Please share your views.

In my home, for shopping myself and wife go together.
We use both credit cards and UPI. We both have credit cards but practically I use my card mostly and her card occasionally. The UPI app is installed in my phone only . But my wife knows the operation and details, and she will be near me always to watch and correct if any error happens. Even for bill payments I do in her presence to prevent mistakes happening.

My son and DIL use UPI payment quite frequently for their daily shopping and bill payments, bookings etc. and use cash only for some petty expenses.

I think in some families the housewives are aware of it but in general there is a need of improvement in this area as many women especially the homemakers have still not learned this mode of payment. It is also a fact that some husbands may not like to give them full control fearing excessive expenditures.
In my relation circle very few housewives are using it and wherever required they ask their husbands to operate the mobile and make payment. Some women are scared of online frauds and avoid using it so that if such a thing happens the blame goes to the husband!
Anyway more awareness is required in this respect so that more women feel comfortable using it.

My wife is a graduate but she is a homemaker only. She has a credit card (add-on card to my credit card), Debit and ATM cards and her mobile smartphone. She has a bank app on her mobile and knows how to operate that. She has Google Pay, and Phone Pay apps on her phone and uses them regularly. When we go out together generally I use my apps. But when she goes alone she will be making use of these apps on her phone. Even my aunt ( My mother's sister) who stays with me uses these UPI payment apps for her needs. My two daughters-in-law use these UPI apps regularly.
In urban areas, ladies also are equally using these apps as their male counterparts. I think new generation ladies in the village also are using these apps. I have seen many ladies in my native village using these apps. Only aged ladies may not be using these apps. My mother 85 years) She uses a mobile phone but no UPI apps on her phone.

UPI is a convenient way of payment but for that particularly ladies are hesitant to use this app due to their fear. They loose confidence especially they are alone and there is a necessity to use UPI mode. It can be done provided they are supported by their male - partners.
Cash payment is the easy option for most of us since handling the same does not involve any harassment.
Since the trend is changing rapidly, we should all be familiar with this mode of making payment to a party in a hassle - free manner. Moreover, this is a convenient method of settling payments to our known parties.

In our family, both my wife and I hesitate to use UPI, although we know how to use it. But my daughter uses UPI for almost 95% of her monetary transactions.

So, I don't believe in this general statement that housewives don't prefer to use UPI. Sometimes this is true and sometimes, not.

My wife is a homemaker, but she is conversant with the mode of UPI payment and uses the same for paying our bills and for other transactions. But she uses debit card while shopping. My sisters, also housewives, are very convenient with UPI payments. I think they are better off than me and more confident.

I agree with Partha that we cannot make a general statement in this case. It depends a lot on individual interest and convenience. The older generation may be a bit wary, but the younger lot, irrespective of their status, educational qualification or location, learn the technics fast and are happy using the same.

Women's in my house just watch YouTube and other shorts videos and know nothing about browsing internet or utility apps like UPI payment. They just do basic calling and watching videos because they are not tech savvy. With all the scams and UPI frauds going around, they are afraid to deal with such things.
    Thanks and regards.

Babu has made a valid point and I have also observed some ladies especially house makers who avoid using UPI due to so many adverse news in the media.
However, this would vary from individual to individual and we cannot make a general statement.

These days ladies are going ahead of men in almost all activities. For them using UPI Apps is not a big thing. Nowadays I go to the weekly market to purchase vegetables with my wife. The majority of vendors are having scans and many customers pay by scanning the QR code. Many ladies who are homemakers come there with their mobile phones pay online and purchase vegetables. Even ladies who are in their 60s also are doing digital payment. This is a big development in our country. People are feeling more convenient in using these apps.

Neeru Madam, women especially elderly ladies are not tech savvy and they don't know how it works. UPI is a very dangerous way to pay if you are not tech savvy because it doesn't require any OTP. Once someone knows your password, your bank account will be robbed. For them cash is the best way to deal.
    Thanks and regards.

Babu, you are very right. Even the tech savvy people have to be alert in these matters and be careful not falling in the trap of cyber cheats.
