There should be some guidelines for pay of private school teachers

There are always two or three types of schools in every State. Firstly, there are the purely Government schools, where the very poor and the slightly better off lower middle class children study. There are quite a few Government-aided schools, where the teachers are well paid. There are many CBSE schools, where is absolutely no control on what the teachers are paid.

Most of such teachers do not do a great job at all and tend to keep on hopping from one job to another, for more salary and perks. This is also true of the totally private schools that are affiliated to the local State Government Board of Education.

While the Government teachers are protected and have tremendous job security, there are also assured of very decent regular income. In most cases, the income becomes second incomes to the family, and their living standards are always high.

How can we allow such differences to continue? We need a totally new approach, with some control over what is being given as salary in all private schools, whether they are affiliated to the State Board or to the CBSE.

Let us understand what is going on and take remedial action.

The main problem is that the salaries and perks in private schools or to that matter in any private enterprise are governed by the revenue generated and profit made. Govt cannot force them to hike the salaries. If Govt wants to bring parity then it should lower the salaries of its own teachers. Why Govt is afraid of doing that? The disparity is there because of Govt policies and not due to the private enterprises.
If you see the salaries and perks of Govt employees then they are all time high today and they are getting DA raise every quarter. In a country like India where about 10-15 crores people are below poverty level how it is justified? At one end we have a large unemployed manpower and at the other end people are getting huge salaries. Over and above that they want old pension scheme also.
Rationalisation of salaries is to be done in all the organisations across the nation and not only in the private schools. But how Govt can do it is a question difficult to answer.

    Knowledge is power.

Private schools work for profit. Education is a business for them. They take higher fees from students and see that their expenditures are low. As many people are trying to find jobs, these schools will get teachers easily. In Private schools, we see many majority of female teachers. These schools try to pay them as little as possible. I know in some villages the teachers are working two or three thousand rupees per month which is very low.
There are good corporate schools where they pay good salaries to some teachers so that the standards will be maintained. But they will also take some teachers with different designations like mentors, teaching assistants etc and pay them lower amounts as salaries.
Many private schools may not pay salaries during summer vacations. There is no control on wages for these teachers and the government can prescribe minimum wages but can't ask these private schools to pay on par with government teachers.

There are rules framed by Government to all sectors but the followers only following and others just neglecting. In Tamil there was one cine song,' sattam pottu thadukkara koottam thaduththuk konde irukkum thittam pottu thirudara koottam thirudikkonde irukkum' which means the thieves are doing their own theft with good planning though the preventing authorities promulgates orders/rules.
