A ruling party, whichever it is, should not underestimate the opposition

In a democratic system the public decides as who would rule the country. Accordingly different parties present their agenda to the public and elections are held. Depending upon the results a party or a coalition of parties form the Govt and rule the country.
Opposition will monitor the governance and administration of the ruling party and make hue and cry if there is something wrong in it. If opposition is successful in pointing out the shortcomings of the regime and promises for a better governance then the same public which elected the earlier regime can change and replace it in the next elections.
So the point is that ruling party whichever it is should not underestimate the opposition. Do you agree?

True. A strong opposition is always good for democracy. The opposition party should note that they should think of people. If the ruling party is doing good, the opposition should not stop them from doing it. However, if the ruling party is going in a different direction, the opposition party should oppose the government's actions and tell them where they are going wrong. A strong opposition is always a check for the ruling party. But sometimes the opposition will have only one agenda that is opposing the government and criticising them always. This is a wrong practice.
In Andhra Pradesh, the YSRCP government did many wrongdoings and they never gave respect to the words of the opposition. Outside the assembly, they had only one agenda that is criticising and scolding the opposition leaders. The voters understood this and they voted against YSRCP this time. Many opposition parties work with a single agenda that is coming to power. In such practices, they forget the welfare of the state or the nation.
Either the ruling party or the opposition party should keep in mind that their fate is in the hands of voters and they should think about them.

A strong and responsible opposition is good for democracy.

But unfortunately, we don't give any importance on the word 'responsible'. The duty of the opposition is to constructively criticize the Government and to help Government to change any incorrect course of action. At the same time, the opposition must be duty-bound to support the Government in case of a national crisis and in other important issues directly linked with the welfare of the people of the country.

Let me cite the example of Israel. After the sudden and terrible attack on Israeli civilians by Hamas terrorists, the entire Israeli opposition parties severely criticized the Netanyahu Government for lapse in security. But, at the same time, they unitedly support the war-efforts of the Netanyahu Government against the terrorists everywhere (either against Hamas or against Hejbollah). This is called responsible opposition.

Unfortunately, in India, the opposition is short-sighted and even irresponsible. These opposition leaders want proof of surgical strike. They don't like if India, as a country, gets more importance in the international fora under the present Government. Some of the opposition leaders indulge in anti-India rhetoric in foreign countries.

The people of India don't like such irresponsible opposition.

If opposition is strong and constructive then it is good for democracy. If opposition is for sake of opposing everything that the ruling party is doing then public will make out that and it will be loss for the opposition party/parties in the next election.
In our country there is a big problem of announcing and distributing the freebies to the public if the party who announces it comes to the power. This practice is to be curtailed as it is harming the very fabric of democratic set up. Let us create jobs and engagements for our people rather than giving them something in free. Let people earn respectfully and pay for water, electricity, gas, and other essentials. What will happen to the GST collection if we are giving something free to a large number of people?
Opposition should take up these aspects and announce their agenda for the progress and prosperity of the country and then only the ruling party would start seeing a competition.
It is true that ruling parties are always aware of the strengths of the opposition and never take them lightly. There is no question of underestimating the opposition. A few small mistakes by the ruling party can give the chance to opposition to rule the country.

    Thoughts exchanged is knowledge gained.

There should be mutual respect between the ruling side and opposition side.
Today's opposition can become tomorrow's ruling side and vice versa, The ruling side should not try to bull doze the opposition, however small and weak it may be. Similarly the opposition should not block each and every discussion, action and programme of ruling side just for the sake of opposing. Opposition should give its full support to the ruling side in all good, useful and proper matters done and dealt by ruling side. The ruling side should accept any creative and positive criticism from opposition and accept the ideas brought in b y opposition if it can make the programmes better for the people and country.

While going abroad and in other countries, the opposition should not ridicule and paint bad about the ruling side f their own country. They also should not publicly oppose the policies taken by the government while speaking and giving interview in and to other countries. The opposition should never have secret understandings and MOU with countries inimical o our national interests. On the contra the opposition should stand in defence of our Government.
The ruling side should not indulge in opposition bashing by continuing to say that the previous government was totally bad or wrong and responsible for all ills of today. They should work for bettering things understanding that it was precisely why the previous government side was defeated and these people were elected. t should be a warning and reminder to all.

Both sides should put national interests and peoples welfare as the first priority irrespective whether they are ruling side or opposition.
Unfortunately as of now in our country, of late, both sides behave differently when they are in ruling side and when they are in the opposition, coolly forgetting their previous role performance.
