Pomodoro Technique: Effective Time Management Technique to improve Productivity
All people do not have the same or similar concentration levels. In my own case, my concentration level is not more than 20 minutes at a stretch. But Pomodoro technique helps people with less concentration improve productivity.Pomodoro Technique was developed by Francesco Cirillo in the late eighties. It was named after the tomato-shaped kitchen-timer which Francesco Cirillo used during his university days (by the way, Pomodoro is Italian for Tomato).
This technique helps to enhance productivity by breaking work into intervals, typically 25 minutes at a stretch, separated by short breaks.
Let us know how this technique works.
Step 1------------Choose a Task: Select a task which you need to accomplish.
Step 2------------Set the Timer: Set a timer for 25 minutes. This period is known as one Pomodoro.
Step 3------------Work: Focus solely on the task until the timer rings. Avoid all distractions.
Step 4------------Break: Take a short break, usually for 5 minutes. Step away from your work area and relax.
Step 5-------------Repeat: After the above four Pomodoros, take a longer break of 15-30 minutes.
The philosophy behind Pomodoro Technique is the idea that frequent breaks can improve mental agility. It helps in minimizing burnout by allowing periodic rest, enhancing focus during work periods. Furthermore, the fixed intervals create a sense of urgency, motivating individuals to work more efficiently within the given time-frame.
The technique also promotes better planning and tracking of work, ultimately resulting in a higher level of productivity.
