My father is 91 years old and my mother is 85 years old. Both of them are staying with me in Hyderabad only. My mother spends her time with a smartphone in her hand. She spends time seeing Facebook, WhatsApp etc. I downloaded an app called 'Stotra Nidhi'. In this app, all Stotras of various Gods and Goddesses are there and she will spend some time reading those Stotras. She will be receiving calls from my brothers and sisters. Mostly around 8 to 9 hours, she will be on that phone only. She watched TTD Channel and spent 3 to 4 hours on that. The remaining time is for sleeping. So she has no problem of spending time.
My father will be sleeping for a long time. Morning he will get up at 9 AM. I will take him and bathe him. Then he will have his breakfast. Then sleeps again up to 12.30. Then he will have his clinch and spend time watching TV up to 3 PM and then sleeps. At 5 PM he will get up, write 'Rama Koti' and then watch TV. He will have his dinner at 8 PM and again sit before TV till 10 PM.his is how both of them will spend their time.

In my opinion the best way to spend old age is to follow your hobbies. I noticed many people love gardening and they enjoy it more after retirement. Even playing indoor games like Chess, Ludo, and Carrom is a good way to keep yourself engaged in something. Many people open a shop for daily items, if they are living in area that allows commerical activities. It is not an easy phase of life but people can form self help groups to enjoy each other's company.
    Thanks and regards.

Old age is a challenging phase in the life and a person has to mentally prepare himself to cope up with that.
One interesting thing about this matter is that one cannot start engaging oneself when one enters the old age if one had not developed working habits in one's life. These things are to be learned well before that and if a person is successful in inculcating such habits and lifestyle where he is engaged in constructive and creative activities then he would not have any difficulty in old age except for the health issues which are inevitable because of advancing age.
People who have developed good hobbies and good habits during their active lives generally pass their old age in much better way than those who become concious of doing something for engagement only when they become old.
A few days back I was attending an open air singing session in the park with some of the seniors of my area and there was a senior guest with one of my friends. While interacting we found that the particular person was having a hobby of writing down good songs, poems etc in a diary and he had a collection of these diaries over a long time and he used to take one of those diaries when he went out to some gathering like we had that time. He opened his diary and sung a song. I was much impressed by his long time habit that has inculcated to such a height.

It becomes a tough time for the seniors to pass their retired lives peacefully if they don't have any hobbies to be engaged with. While recalling the past days of our services, we have had a satisfying time due to a large number of friends and colleagues with whom we chatted in the plant. Such a talk provided us with enough refreshment apart from performing our regular work.
Immediately, after retirement, we were searching for some friends with whom we could share our emotions but the same could not be fulfilled due to multiple reasons chiefly due to some health disorders of our colleagues due to the advancement of ages.
Then I started yoga in the morning hours to calm down my nerves in the morning session & evening sessions for an hour each to pass the time with a constructive mission.
Listening to Ravindra Sangeet for easing tension was amazing for me providing me with enough recreation to pass my time with ease.

One thing that is very useful in old age is the company of friends and group activities. There are many activities that can be done in a group and are full of fun and frolic. Some of these activities are walking, going on picnic, having some snacks and tea in the group say once a week, attending interesting lectures, playing easy games like indoor games, participating in volunteer activities, etc. There are so many such activities which seniors can undertake easily and pass their time happily.
