Yes, we have chosen a dangerous path by installing a RO machine in our domestic set-up. This machine purifies the water in such a way that the essential minerals like Ca, Mg, and Iron are removed from RO water during the purification process.
Though it eliminates bacteria and other fungi, the elimination of human-friendly elements makes the consumers ultimately deficient in such minerals. In the long process, it would not be a fair justification.
If we look back at our past, it was a wise decision to boil the water and use the same for our intake. In that process, there was no depletion of life-saving minerals

When water is treated by RO process then it loses some minerals during that special treatment. Some of these minerals are essential and useful for our bodies. Continuous drinking RO water is having that problem.
I think drinking the normal water after filtering by carbon element or some other effective filter element would be a better choice.
I remember earlier we were using simple ceramic sand filter element for filtering and during rainy season we were boiling the water to avoid harmful bacteria reaching our guts.
Anyway, RO water has become very popular and everyone is going to drink that even if it lacks some important minerals.
Knowledge is power.

RO water is demineralised water. It will not contain any types of minerals. It is good if the water contains some minerals. The actual mineral water bottle is supposed to contain RO water with some added minerals. The quality of the water is to be checked before we decide on this point. If the groundwater available has fluorine, it is not good for drinking. Removing fluorine through ion exchange is difficult. That is why reverse osmosis (RO) has come into the picture. RO plants are required only for the areas where the water contains fluorine. If there is no fluorine water we can just filter it and drink it. There are some areas in India where fluorine is very high. There people should use RO water with added minerals. Otherwise, a simple aqua guard which will filter only suspended solids is OK. It is better to get the TDS analysed in the water and if it is in the range of drinking we can drink the same and this is my preference.

RO water everything has come now only. In my childhood I used to travel with my grandfather to nearby towns from our Madurai. In those days I used to bath in hot water only. When we stay in lodges of such towns I astonished to see my grandfather taking bath in ordinary water as he was bathing in hot water daily. Once I asked him about this. For this, his reply is strongly nailed in my mind and I am following that till now. He told, 'Grandson, we cannot expect everything as we got practiced in our hometown or house. But we have to overcome the situations and for that we have to customize our habits according to the place and if we do so, our body will get accommodated. We do not scar about the new water, new place, new bed etc., if we made our mind and body to suit to the situation. Whenever taking bath in a new place even in river, pond, houses or lodges etc., drink a handful water before bathing and continue your bath, it will never harm . Once you think bad about the water etc., your thought itself bring illness to your body'.
Accordingly even today I never see the difference in drinking water and am alright without any side effects.

As I was living in a hilly place during my childhood we had spring water in our town at many places and we simply went there and brought water in a pot. Municipal water was only available on the main roads at select points but we used that for various other purposes other than drinking. For drinking purpose we used the spring water.
Spring water is the water that comes out generally at the bottom of the hills throughout the year. It is actually the rain water that had been absorbed on a large area on the surface of the hills as well as the large plateaus that extended well beyond the hills. So a large area is exposed to rains and then the water absorbed is sufficient to trickle out at certain points at the base of hills till next rains.
Anyway the point is that the spring water contained all the minerals required by our bodies and nature had its way to give it to us.
Today we are using RO water but missing those minerals. The tap water cannot be used directly for drinking because of obvious reasons and we are forced to consume RO water.
Sometimes we have to pay for technological and scientific advancements by losing our health.
Thoughts exchanged is knowledge gained.

I have lived in a hilly place in Jammu Kashmir (Udhampur) and I noticed that local people used chashma water. It was crystal clear water, which you will never see anywhere except the mountain region. People who live in plains don't have that kind of natural water and ground water is usually polluted with heavy metals. Drinking water needs to have prescribed TDS limit to become fit for drinking purpose that's the reason people use RO. filtrations. There are filter now available other than RO like UV+UF for water that has TDS less than 200. Drinking water shouldn't have TDS more than 80 and should be devoid of microbes.
Thanks and regards.
