Share your views about a career with the Indian Army

Indian army is a big organisation and has got various cadres and working categories in it. Many people apply to work in it and if get selected join in various levels ranging from a simple armyman to second lieutenant or other army commission level.
Salary wise and facilities wise it is considered a good job and only thing is that it is a tough job and sometimes when the people are posted in border areas or other tough areas then it requires a lot of efforts to perform as an armyman.
Anyway, my query is that if given a choice would you like to join Indian army or allow your children to join it? If your children are getting other good jobs with same salary in the industries then which one would you prefer?

It is a pride to be employed in the Indian Army. There are many jobs and many engineers and scientists are working in defence organisations. I visited Army headquarters once or twice in Delhi in connection with some business when I was working in a company. I had the privilege of meeting Antony Ji the then Defence Minister and I had some photographs taken with him.
Getting a job in the Army is tough and after getting in, the field training they give is also very tough. One of my classmate's brothers was an officer in the Army. He explained to me the hardships he underwent when he was getting trained. But he completed all that and served the Indian Army for a long.
If any one of my two sons or both gets selected for the Indian Army, I might have felt happy and I might have encouraged them to join. But I never force them as their life is their choice. But my two sons are working in the IT industry and they have no chance of joining the Indian Army as they crossed the age limit I think.

It is not an easy job at Indian Army especially during the training period. I have met many people who have cried when they visited their home after the training period. Anyone who thinks it is a job, then he/she should think again about it. It is not a job but a service to the nation. You will be trained for the battlefield where either you will die or survive. In my opinion if you are not mentally tough you shouldn't join or even think about joining Indian Army or any defence services or even paramilitary services like BSF because life will be tough during the service.
    Thanks and regards.

The young people are gifted with talents to tackle the odd situation. If they are laboriously determined to face any odd situation, they should try the job of the Indian Army not because of a rosy career but for the sake of service of the nation.
The initial phase, I mean, the training period is so struggling that many of the aspirants become frustrated eventually. They might think of ways of coming out of such an odd phase, however, it is not easy either.
It is the planning of the armed forces to prepare the youths to face any odd coming in the way with great vigour and stamina. Hence for them, it is a ground for learning the differed odds with the provision of training to tackle the odds coming in their way.. Maintaing calmness in such a stage is an absolute necessity.

Army job is tough and challenging. At the same time it is remunerative also and the persons working in army get all the facilities for performing their duties. Many people apply for various positions in the army and there is good competition for officer level entry.
Members have already narrated about the practical difficulties encountered by army persons while discharging their duties especially in war time or terrorist attacks. I would say that inspite of all this there are brave young minds in our country who are ready to take up these challenges and join the army once they are selected through the selection process.
I salute to these young people who take up the challenge of working in army. In some cases even parents are not in favour of that career but if the young person is bold and does not fear one's life to safeguard the country then that person would choose the respectable career of working in armed forces.

    Thoughts exchanged is knowledge gained.
