25 years ago, on this day (29th June) in Kargil

On 28th June 1999, 18 Garhwal Rifles was tasked to capture Pt. 4700 in the Dras Sector. The attack plan was made. The second-in-command of the Delta Company was Captain Sumeet Roy. Alpha Company established the base as per the attack plan. The other companies of 18 Garhwal started moving upwards from the farm base established by the Alpha Company.

But they were pinned down by the accurate machinegun fire by the enemy from the top. At that crucial time, Captain Sumeet Roy made a daring outflanking move. He, along with very few soldiers, silently reached an adjoining cliff from where machinegun fire was coming. He eliminated two enemy sodiers on his own and moved from one enemy sanghar to another to destroy those sanghars.

The capture of the cliff made the ultimate task of capturing Pt. 4700 relatively easy and 18 Garhwal completed the task on 29th June 1999. Unfortunately, after the victory, Captain Sumeet Roy was hit by enemy artillery fire and was martyred.

For displaying indomitable spirit and exemplary courage, Captain Sumeet Roy (IC-58154) was awarded Vir Chakra posthumously. He was the youngest officer to receive the gallantry award in the Kargil campaign.

Let us all pay tribute to this gallant soldier of Mother India.

Kargil is a place which is in proximity to the border line between Pakistan and India. Many conflicts took place in this area between the jawans of both countries. But the deadliest war known as the Kargil War took place between May and July 1999. The intrusions from the Pakistan side triggered this fight and ultimately India was able to reclaim the area occupied by the enemies and saw that all Pakistani soldiers retreated to their country. In this process, many efficient soldiers and officers of the Indian army also suffered a lot.
Captain Sumeet Roy is one of such noble persons who shed their lives to protect our country. We should salute such people. Because of their sacrifices only we are all having a sound sleep in the night. It is good that our government honoured Captain Sumeet Roy with Vir Chakra posthumously. But it is in no way comparable to the sacrifice he made for the country. My tributes to all the people who sacrificed their lives in this country.

A brave soul indeed! Salute to the soldier for safeguarding our borders and helping us win Kargil war. I have great respect towards soldier of any country because they fight for the nation unlike the politicians who are always looking to take credit to win elections.
Humble yourself or life will do it for you!

Kargil has remained one of the sensitive places during May 1999 and July 1999 due to intense fighting of the soldiers between the countries. There was an unwanted intrusion of the Pakistani Army with the ill intention of capturing some areas of our country. This led to a breakout of a war. However, the Pakistani soldiers could not withstand the firm will of the Indian Soldiers.
During the process of intense fighting Captain Sumit Roy was active providing the soldiers to a full support and lost his life during the intense fighting. Though he was rewarded award Vir Chakra award posthumously,, but the same could be averted with a matured stand initiated by Pakistan.

Yesterday (28th June) was the death anniversary of another gallant soldier of India, Captain Neikezhakuo Kenguruse. This gallant soldier was attached with 2 Rajputana Rifles and he was called 'Nimbu Sahab' by the soldiers of RAjRif. He won Mahavir Chakra posthumously during the Kargil war.

I wrote about this fierce Naga soldier on ISC but could not find the post even after searching more than 30 minutes.

I am posting here which I posted in another site about this great and fearless soldier.
    ----------------------------------------
He was originally from Army Service Corps (ASC), but during those momentous days, he was attached with 2 Rajputana Rifles. He was supremely fit and ferocious. The Naga leader was in the leading 'Ghatak' (Commando) platoon of 2 RajRif. But there was a small issue. The simple Rajput soldiers could not pronounce his complex name. So, he was everybody's "Nimbu Sahab".

In May and early June, one after another bad news came. These were news of setbacks. News of death came. Dead bodies returned. Unprepared, ill-informed, ill-equipped soldiers died. There was a pall of gloom in the Indian camp.

This needed to be changed. And the responsibility was given to 2 RajRif. On 28th June 1999, the ferocious Naga leader started the upward march with his Ghatak platoon. From the top, intense mortar and machine-gun firing were started by Pakistanis. He was hit in his abdomen. But the Naga moved forward, undeterred. At one stage, he found that he could not climb because of the steep gradient. At -10 degree Celsius above 15,000 feet, he threw away his boots and started moving barefoot.

The Naga leader reached the top with RPG rocket-launcher, fixed the rope for his soldiers and took on the enemy positions single-handedly. He destroyed seven enemy bunkers with the rocket-launcher and got wounded again. Two enemy soldiers came out to kill this wounded Naga, but he sent them to their maker with his commando knife. His soldiers reached the top and ferociously attacked the enemy soldiers with Regimental war-cry "Raja Ramchandra ki Jai".

But the great leader, could not be there to witness the final moments of glory. A volley of bullets just before the final victory at Black Rock of Drass sector took away the life of this inspiring and dare-devil leader.

But the soldiers of 2 RajRif could not forget Captain Neikezhakuo Kenguruse. After the victory, the soldiers shouted in gratitude: "Yeh aapki jeet hai, Nimbu Sahab"!

Indian soldiers are well known for their bravery and boldness in the warfront. The author has given an elaborate details about these two brave people who have shown extra ordinary courage in the border area where enemy country always tries to intrude from time to time. Such warriors in our army are making a strong defence line and I salute to all of them for their bravery.
    Thoughts exchanged is knowledge gained.

The bravery of Indian army people is well known and there are so many real stories about it. The author has very nicely brought out one such episode of gallantry shown by our army person in the Kargil area.
Our jawans are keeping a vigil in border areas and foiling any attempt of intrusion by the enemy. We are safe sitting in our houses because of their hard work and bold actions.
I pay my respect to these heroes who are relentlessly guarding our borders. I salute to them.

    Knowledge is power.
