Did you ever suffer from stage fear?

Some people by nature are shy and do not mix with others. These people generally also feel shy in giving a speech or talk in front of an audience. They have a sort of stage fear. Because of their shyness these people generally become introvert and have contacts and relationships with a limited number of friends or other people.
Having stage fear blocks the development of a person especially when it comes to leading others and guiding others for the common cause or motivating others as per the organisational objectives where such people are employed.
Did you ever suffer from stage fear? Are you comfortable for speaking or addressing to a group of people? Please share your experiences.

When I was in high school, I gave a speech on the occasion of Independence Day. I was to speak in the presence of all teachers in the school and the students. That was my first attempt. I was a little nervous at the beginning. But once I started speaking I forgot that fear and completed my speech. I got first prize. After that, I never had stagefear issues.
I have attended many national and international seminars and presented papers during my career. I want to make a special mention of a seminar I attended in the US. The conference is about safety in explosive and high-energy materials. Government officials from different countries attended. Also, professionals from the industry attended. I made a presentation about an accident that took place in one of the explosive factories and analysed the reasons for the same. I received the best presenter award. The organisers sent an appreciation letter to our company Chairman, thanking him for deputing me to the conference. I can't forget such incidents.

Dr Rao, It is remarkable that you fared so well in that maiden attempt.

People who overcome their stage fear early in their lives are lucky because more we delay it more difficult it becomes to remove that shyness.
Many people are shy in giving a lecture first time or making a maiden speech but once the initial attempts are over one gets enough confidence to go ahead and give any speech in a fearless way.
I remember when I was in my school it was very difficult for me to recite a poem when I was called on the stage for the first time. In fact I had forgotten the third line and was fumbling in front of the audience. It was quite discouraging and tears rolled out from my eyes. It is not easy to face the audience when our performance is bad. Anyway that is always like a lesson from which we learn to improve. Today I can talk in front of any audience without any hesitation.

    Knowledge is power.

Stage fear is a common thing among children but family environment plays an important role in getting over it. People become anxious just because they are very conscious of what others are thinking about them. It is a normal thing because most of the people want to give their best in front of a large crowd who are watching them keenly. Once your first stage performance is successfully completed, everything becomes normal and next time you don't feel anxiousness. In my view family upbringing plays a big role in such things and those people who have an open family environment where everyone is free to express have better stage confidence. I have seen parents who always criticize their children so much that they never have the confidence to face such situations. They are always low on confidence and are fearful about their appearances because of the constant criticism they have faced during their childhood.

Didn't we have a discussion on public speaking a few months before? Again, another post on the same topic!

It is true that there was some stage fear to me and so I just avoid such situations mostly though happened.
One day as a casual visit I went to our branch service center. Later only I came to know that there was some meeting of all service personnel of that branch. Service Manager arranged for the meeting in a systematic way. When I entered into the office, the Service Manager felt happy and asked me to participate in the meeting also. At one time, Service Manager asked me to the stage and give the prizes to the target winners. I do agree for that. Suddenly the service In charge asked me to answer some queries raised by service personnel related to Personnel Department issues. Though initially I hesitated to answer them from the stage, since it is my subject my stage fear gone and tackled the situation well. Surprisingly came there my senior also appreciated me for that.
