War or no war, Ukrainian population is reducing very fast

We have been hearing about Ukraine nowadays very frequently due to the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war. Many of us have come to know that many Indian students were studying medical sciences in Ukraine just before the war because the medical education was less costly there.

Some of us knew that Ukraine is the producer of huge amount of wheat, maybe the country is the largest wheat producer in Europe. Further, there are some strategically important ports on Black Sea are located in Ukraine (e.g. Chornomorsk, Odesa, Kherson, Berdiansk, Mariupol, etc.)

Today I have come to know a new fact about Ukraine. Before the current war, the fertility rate of Ukrainian women was only 1.10. Now, it has become 0.70 (only second lowest after South Korea). In this connection, we must note that the fertility rate of the Russian women is 1.15 and the Russian Government is almost begging Russian women to have more babies. So, we can easily imagine what is happening in Ukraine!

Population experts are now saying that war or no war, Ukrainian population is fast decreasing. Just now, read an article which states that the country's birth rate is currently at 300-years low. Coupled with war and corruption at high places, the country is going through a very dark phase.

I read the same somewhere. It was mentioned in that article that Ukraine's population decreased to 29mn last year, with only 187,000 births recorded. This includes the births recorded in Russian-occupied territories. I understand that this country's population has reduced yearly since 1991. Another issue is visa-free travel across European Territory. This made many people go out of this country for jobs and had a big say in the population of this country. Low fertility, Visa-free travel and the ongoing war between Russia and this country helped in the decrease in population of this country, I think.

What Dr. Rao Sir has stated is correct. But reduction in population so drastically is not 'helping' Ukraine. It is an undesirable situation.

I have already written that the Russian authorities are almost begging Russian women to bear more children. The fertility rate for Russian women is 1.15.

For some countries increasing population is a problem while for some others decreasing population is a challenge as their manpower is drastically reducing and the availability of young force is becoming very limited.
In such a situation generally these countries will start allowing the outside work force to their countries and take work from them. If remunerations are attractive many people from high population countries will like to go there and work whatever the job might be.
This has a long time effect on those countries as poor workers from other places will try to enter and settle there.
When a particular community of outside people swell in these receptive countries then there are problems of new population mix and conflicts might arise.
So countries like Ukrain will have a tough time in managing these issues which arise because of lack of their own working manpower.

We always thought that increasing population was the problem but in some countries like China, South Korea, and Ukrain the reduced birth rate is a big problem and Govts there are giving incentives to people for having more babies.
Ukrain is going through a difficult phase as it is facing the prolonged war with Russia and depending on other countries for weapons, ammunition etc. It is fighting bravely with Russia and getting good support from US and NATO countries.
The issue of low birth rate in Ukrain is a serious matter for the country because every country needs sufficient strong hands for its progress and developments.
