Why do so many people resort to evil deeds?

In general in this world and in particular in our country there are many people engaged in wrong doing and evil activities. We are hearing of fake religious leaders, drug mafias, child traffickers, cheats, rumour mongers, hackers, stalkers, and other offenders who are making the life of common people difficult.
When there are normal ways and channels of making a living either after good education or self employment, why these people choose a path of deceiving and cheating others? What are the compulsions that people choose evil paths in their lives? Some of them are hiding from police and going underground for long times. Why they adopt such paths? What do you think about it? How can we check people adopting evil deeds? Can these people be ever corrected? Please share your thoughts.

Everyone doesn't think the same way and environment plays a big role. Once I was talking to a rural boy about mass cheating going on in the village school. He said that cheating is the only way they can pass because they don't have time and environment to study. Morality starts from school days and a child who doesn't know what is right or wrong will never know what is good or evil. We have criminals becoming MP and MLA showing the path to our youth that they can succeed even after doing evil. A mafia politician like Mukhtar Ansari saw a huge crowd during his cremation while a soldier dying on border will not get so much attention. There is long way to go to become a country where people know what's wrong or right.
Humble yourself or life will do it for you!

It is very difficult to tell as why some people in the world resort to evil practices. One of the reasons is well explained by Ajay Gupta that in backward areas children do not have opportunities same as the urban children have. It is more true for the poor people.
Another thing is that in our society or to that matter in the world elsewhere there are many poor people some of whom are tempted by money given to them by bad people for doing something wrong. Initially it is done for money but later it becomes their illegal profession. People once fallen in the trap of such bad company remain in it for a long and if caught by law pass their time in jail. Their families are generally taken care by their godfathers.
The unfortunate part is that the number of such bad people is phenomenally large and is a great threat to the civil societies across the globe.

    Thoughts exchanged is knowledge gained.

Why some people resort to a step unacceptable to people living in a civilised society can be well understood with a little homework. In India, we have a large population struggling hard to survive and they need money for survival. They can do to any extent to earn money without minding which sources they have switched for earning money. If the parents are not providing the right culture to their kids, they will not realise which route is the right one for income. They will ultimately resort to a path which will make them antisocial elements very often they are put behind bars because of their illegal activities.
Kids if not handled in their adolescent ages with the right culture can change the lives of the youngsters which would prove irreversible.
However, it is not that all the kids of low income group behave in an irreresponsible way because of rational guidance of their parents.

I think it is the greed that makes them like that. Some people are happy with what they have and earn in legal ways. They try to be happy with a simple living. But some people want more and more money. They never bother about the path they are following for earning. Their only interest is to earn a lot and enjoy their life.
I know a political leader ( I don't want to mention the name). He is so greedy that he used to fix targets for his father for his daily earnings. All of a sudden his father expired and this man entered directly into politics and used all possible ways to earn money he had excellent palaces in almost all major cities in the South.
When people get habituated to certain habits like drinking, taking drugs etc, they can't restrain themselves from using them. So they want money for having those items and they resort to all types of illegal activities. That is why parents should watch the behaviour of their wards from childhood and see that they will be always on the correct path only. It is very difficult to change the people who have got bad habits.

India is a crowded place and everyone is not capable enough to earn legally. You can take an example of government job that every youth aspires. For one government job 1000 candidates are appearing for competitive exam and we all know no matter how good a candidate, only one will be able to secure that job and rest 999 will remain jobless. The problem is those jobless people don't have any option because they devoted their life for government job preparation. The most dangerous people are those who want easy money and don't want to work. These people usually become criminals because they don't want to work hard for money. They want easy and shortcut money, which is mostly achieved through illegal means. When private sector doesn't provides enough decent jobs to youth, they usually go for evil route for money.
    Thanks and regards.

Yes, poverty is one reason that makes the poor people sometimes to go for easy money and fall in the hands of evil people. As Dr Rao has rightly mentioned greed is also a big cause of people going to wrong domains.
If we observe the bad things happening in this world then we will find that there is a network of evil people supporting and helping each other in wrong doings. They are of course afraid of getting caught and it is obvious that they would take all the precautions not to do any mistake in their working.
Authorities are always after these people and try to catch them and punish them.
Sometimes these evil people have connections with officials and politicians in high places and they get a kind of protection and survive under it.

    Knowledge is power.
