    Safety during religious gatherings

There have been many instances of stampede, disorder, and overcrowding during religious gatherings and then sometimes people get wounded or even die. It clearly shows that there is negligence by the people organising such crowded functions and also the local administration. Recently one such stampede leading to death of so many people happened in Hathras, UP.
In any gathering if proper movement of crowd is not managed and entry and exit gates are not well demarcated then a chaos can happen. Even after coming out of the gathering place the crowd can make traffic jams and other problems on the main roads.
It means that stringent safety measures are to be taken during such gatherings and appropriate arrangements according to the intensity of crowd are to be made.

Such incidents happened in the past in religious gatherings and in some other gatherings related to movies or politics. The organisers estimate the quantum of gatherings and arrangements will be made for a little higher percentage than the estimation. But when the gathering exceeds these estimates such incidents will happen.
5 or 6 years back a big movie success meet was organised and people attended in large numbers while returning there was a stampede and 5 or 6 people died.
Many people want to come, complete their work early and go back early. In such a hurry, incidents may happen. Every individual should act with responsibility and should not create tense moments. All should follow the guidelines laid by the organising committee and see that all will safely reach their places.
Organisers should display proper guidelines. Entry and exit routes should be marked clearly. Sufficient space should be available for organising the event safely.

Yes in past also these things had happened but this time in Hathras, UP, the number of casualties is very high and it shows that no one foresaw that type of incident killing so many people just because of the stampede. That also for a Baba whose past is laced with controversies.
I think local Govt authorities should not depend on the organisers of these functions and there should be a system of either charging them good amount for security services or Govt should provide adequate police not to allow people to make crowd at unwanted places.
Gullible and innocent God believers from the villages and towns around such functions come there with good faith but if they die in the stampede then what is the fun in that type of devotion. God will never call you to his place to kill you. It is ridiculous to think so.

It is a foolish thing to attend such religious gatherings where too much crowd is expected. Children, elderly and women should always avoid such places because they are mostly the casualties in such incidents. I don't know why people in India follow the crowd. It has happened numerous times in India and still people don't understand that unnecessary panic can be deadly in such crowds. God is everywhere and you have many places if you are looking for peace and tranquility. Such things should be totally banned by the government and even if they are allowed there should be a limit to number of people attending such gatherings.
Humble yourself or life will do it for you!

What Ajay Gupta has mentioned is about having strict governance in this matter by the local administration and crowd management is the key to avoid such mishaps. I fully agree that local administration should not show any laxity in this regard.

In India, most of the people are religious-minded. The so-called babas are aware of the public sentiments and the attachment of the people towards religion offers babss chances of making both money and fame. They would not like to waste such a precious opportunity so easily. They go on preaching one thing or the other in the matters of religion, misleading the public very often how they can enjoy their lives with their visits to the religious -minded babas.
Now considering how such an unpredicted stampede occurred in Hathras is known to many of us. A group of devotees was interested in touching the feet of Baba and this created a chance of completion among the public. Everyone wanted to be first in such a mad - race causing a heavy rush in a small area. The public could not tolerate the impact of severe pushing from behind causing their fall in the water - laden with Mud. It did not stop there. Many more people fall in such ditches losing lives of 126 people.
The Baba hypnotized the innocent people with misleading preaching and we have all witnessed such a sad tragedy which could have been averted with the vigilance of the local administration.

The author gave a good alert in this connection. People without knowledge, if happened to be in the crowd/gathering, nobody can help but the knowing people's case is pathetic. The extra care should be made in such people and there is a onus on such experienced people is to alerting the new ones.
This post reminds me the Rath Yathra of Puri. Though I went to Puri many times for Darshan, in the year 2010 July I went to Jatni, near Bhubashwar for a family function. As I took my wife, father and brother's family with me, I planned to take them to Puri for witnessing Rath Yathra which was on on that week. I arranged a taxi person in Jatni for going to Puri as a return journey to Jatni again. He also agreed and since the fare he told me was okay for me, I went with the plan. On coming to our house of stay with the car, the driver told me after seeing my father and brother's child etc., that it was very difficult to go inside the crowd of Rath Yatra for them and so he advised me to proceed to Puri with them. He further agree if I cancel the trip without any extra payment. Please with his advise and appreciating his non-commercial mind, I asked him to have trip to Bhubaneswar on the date of our return journey.
