An interview with the Head Coach of the Hyderabad IPL team

The Hyderabad IPL team won the IPL trophy this year. The team performed very well and the captain in his remarks during the presentation ceremony appreciated the efforts of their head coach TM for his relentless efforts in improving the performance levels of all the team members in all the departments of the game, namely batting, bowling and fielding.

DC, a journalist from an English newspaper based in Hyderabad interviewed the head coach of the team, TM.

DC: Congratulations on winning the IPL trophy this year. As a head coach of the team, how do you feel about it?

TM: Thank you. Success is very sweet for anybody. We enjoyed the success and our boys did an excellent job and made all of us proud. I thank the Hyderabad team management for giving me full freedom in preparing the boys for this big battle. All the boys worked together as a team and all of them always used to say 'We' only but never 'I'. They all struggled for many days to keep up with the expectations their management had on them.

DC: As a head coach of the team, what plan of action you have implemented for making the team win the cup this year?

TM: I and my support staff along with all the players spent a lot of time on the field practicing the game. Then we watched many videos of past games to know the strong points and weak points of all the players participating in the tournament. This attempt made our bowlers make their strategy of bowling to the opponent. Similarly, our batters understood the bowling styles of bowlers from the other teams and practised facing such balls elegantly. We all know that catches win matches. Fielding is very important and boys should be alert on the field. In this department, our support staff helped the players in practising difficult catches also. The efforts of the players as a unit paid off rich dividends. We have seen that all the team members will be positive on and off the field. That approach made us win the cup, I feel.

DC: Before winding off my final question is, Are you going to recommend the same team to the Hyderabad team management for next year's IPL trophy?

TM: I am not sure whether the management will retain me as their head coach for the next tournament. (A big laugh by both TM and DC). By winning this trophy our boys made our management happy and the management will also have its strategy. Still, time is there and let us see how things will shape up. Thank you and bye.

A well structured creative post by the author submitted against the Q & A contest.
In IPL the credit of winning to Hyderabad team not only goes to the team but also to the coach. It is the responsibility of the coach to guide the players and make them perform in best of the ways. A good coach can motivate the team members and encourage them for playing their best.
In this interview the coach has given all the details about the preparations and practices undertaken by the players to keep themselves ready for the challenges of playing cricket and lifting the trophy.
Another thing that a coach has to bring in the team is the feeling of a dedicated group having good unity and focussed approach for winning. There should not be any conflict within the team. I also feel that this is the most important aspect and a coach is the right person to inculcate it in the players.

    Knowledge is power.

Cricket is a game of continuous fight and strategy. There are so many players in the team and only when they are aligned and focused in a correct direction, the team would progress ahead. The captain of the team has a responsibility of keeping all the players in cohesion and work for the overall objective. But that is not enough, a guide is also required who can direct all the players including the captain to perform their best. That is where a coach comes in picture.
A good coach can make a big difference.
In this interview the coach has described in details as how one has to motivate and undertake desired practice for the players so that they remain active and vibrant for taking up the challenges expected in the coming matches.
A well conceived interview giving details of activities required during practice sessions and strategies to be followed during the actual match.

    Thoughts exchanged is knowledge gained.

Unlike coaches of other sports, the task of cricket coach is more complex. He/She has to mentor all players, look after the morale of all players including the players in the reserve bench, understand the nitty-gritty of different pitches, devise the strategy, battling practise, fast bowling practice, spin bowling practice, wicket-keeping practice, managing the field placement during practice as well as in the actual match, catch-taking practice, managing the injured players in consultation with the physician and physiotherapist and many other things. So, nowadays, we see more than one coach for a team and a chief mentor.

However, the author has tried excellently to prepare a good interview with the coach of the IPL champion team.
