    Retaining a customer is essential for the success of a business

    Customer is critical in any business. A customer is not an outsider. The success of a business depends more on the customer only. Whether it is a product or a service having sufficient customers only can bring profit in the business.

    The present era is competitive. If somebody starts a business and is successful, many will follow and bring in competition. The business development department will pursue and bring in a new customer. If the customer is happy with the product or the service, we can anticipate repeat orders. Retaining a customer is very important for the success of our business. How to retain him? Maintaining quality and giving them at the best possible price is the only way to retain him. A customer lost is lost forever. Bringing him back is more difficult than bringing a new customer.

    Mahatma Gandhi had said that customer is the most important person in our premises because he doesn't require us but we require him.
    No doubt customer is the most important entity for a business. The whole idea of any business is because there are customers for it.
    When customers cease to exist for a business then business has to close down or immediately switch over to other business in accordance with the scientific and technological changes going in the industrial world.
    Due to increased competition in the business world many businesses houses attract their customers by offering freebies and gifts or discounts. Retaining customers in the present scenario is not an easy job but it is a must for flourishing of a business.
    Generally the marketing group of the company takes the responsibility of retaining the customers.

    Knowledge is power.

    For any business whether small or big or tiny, the customers are contributing major role for the business. Caring customer is an art. This does not mean the vendor should offer a good discount or freebies etc., but caring them with sweet words and way of making the sales is more important. Our Professor used to tell about the Orientation Management. We can see many shops selling same product in a street of any city but people are going to a particular shop in either way is because of the attraction faced by that vendor. This may be we can say as sentiment but the major reason is caring customer by the vendor.
    Sometimes the timely freebies also attract customers to remind the vendors though they are making any purchase. In one big jewelry shop at Madurai I have seen they are offering good buttermilk during the Chitra festival free of cost to all passerby people and this reminds in the minds of passerby persons to avail the services of shop on their going in future.
    In one textile shop of Chennai T Nagar, the security personnel do much care on their customers by receiving them when entering and caring them even on leaving the shop after purchase by caring their vehicles and sometimes guiding for fixing cabs etc., also.

    Doing business these days is not easy at all with competition from everywhere. Also, people these days are always looking around to see business ideas to start their own venture. When it comes to customers one has to offer quality service then only the customer will come again. Nobody will like to purchase something from a place where the business owners doesn't take responsibility of their faulty products. So, it all depends on the quality and most customers prefer quality along with affordable price.

    We have often seen that a business in our locality has been all of sudden so popular that everyone in the locality makes a beeline to his shop. This speaks of the business deal of the shop owner. Though there are other shops in the same locality they cannot match the requirements of the customers.
    I had a chance to meet that young boy hardly looking 25 but had a decent sense of the customer's needs. Morning is the time for having a cup of tea for all of us but at the same time, they have to drop their children to schools with some wholesome breakfast of slice bread and omelette. He never fails to smell the minor thing a customer. Things are not that much great, managing same appears a fantastic skill.

    The reverse is also true. That makes it imperative to retain existing customer base, because to satisfy an existing customer and retain him is less costing than getting a new customer.

    Marketing is one of the toughest tasks and to market a product the marketing department requires the support of all the departments in their organisation. Organisations spend a lot of money on marketing. They will incur some cash and time to get a customer. To get back what is invested in getting a customer should come back from the sales happening to that customer. Otherwise, it is a loss for the company. So retaining a customer is very important. A satisfied customer will be a permanent customer.

    The Marketing Department plays a vital role in the sense that this department takes care of the products in disposing of the products produced by the different units with a profit determined by the management. Profitability is a variable component subject to the inclusion of numerous factors such as the crisis of the product in the market, raw materials being expensive and the customers being choosy for such products and so on.
    Since the marketing department is responsible for procuring orders from different customers and hence it is the duty of this section must take care of its compliance according to a commitment by this department otherwise we will be losing our precious customers. In that sense, this section needs to honour the commitmen.
