A slice of India in London

It has been two weeks in London now. There is a place called South Ham in London. This place resembles India. One can see jewelry shops and branches of four famous branded hotels from Chennai.

These are the Saravana Bhavan, Sangeetha, A2B ad Murugan Idly Shop. There were a few other names and one famous Kerala hotel as well. Since I was not in a mood to eat out, I did not eat anything. I did find at least UK people wait patiently for their turn at Saravana Bhavan, through the glass door of the hotel.

I was able to see a branch of the SBI as well.

And then there are at least three or four medium sized Departmental Stores selling every major brand of all grocery items found in different parts of India. Vegetables resembling the Indian varieties were seen and I was told that these come from different countries and not just India.

A good slice of India. Am told there are other places as well.

London is a place where an Indian would find many Indian outlets especially the eating joints, grocery and provision shops, and things like that. Britishers had ruled India for a long time and during that there was much cultural exchange between the two. Britishers like some of the Indian foods which have distinct Indian flavour.
South Indian food has its own charm where the flavour is produced with curry leaves, mustard seed, asafoetida, pulses, and coconut powder and it tempts the foodies. On the other hand the north Indian food has its own attraction where the use of traditional spices create authentic cuisines and people adore it.
In London, not only the Indians but others also relish the Indian food. So you don't feel in an alien place when you are in London.

Knowledge is power.

Nowadays, Indians are going to every nook and corner of the globe and settling there. So wherever we go we will find some Indian hotels and Indian eatables. London is a place where many Indians settle and so we will find Indian food outlets and many other shops. My uncle's son ( My father's brother's son) was in London for more than 10 years and later he came back. He was telling me about this. 15 years back I visited Korea and there also I found some Indian restaurants where I ate vegetarian food. Now many Indian companies are exporting food items to other countries. Haldirams is a very popular brand these days in many foreign countries.
When we go foreign for a few days we should taste their food items also. Once we come back we will have our idli, dosa etc, available for us here. I am happy to note that India is becoming famous in many other countries and our people are being received there with open hands.

I had an opportunity to live in London for about a month with the daughter of my sister and I found that people are in general friendly and courteous. As maid servants are not cheaply available there, people have to do their household work themselves.
We found the prices of all the items very high as compared to India but that is alright when seen from the salary levels there.
Indian food is easily available and for Indians there is no such problem regarding that.

Thoughts exchanged is knowledge gained.
