What is the minimum requirement to live a happy life for you?

I was a reading a news article about a person who seen begging on streets and died on the street begging because of poor health. Later people came to know that the person had crore rupees in his bank account and he hasn't withdrawn that money for years. He was a government employee who more interested in accumulating his money in the bank account. I don't know what kind of happiness was he getting with that accumulated wealth in the bank account if he has to beg in streets. It looks like the person was mentally ill or he was afraid to show his wealth to the public fearing that he will be looted.

What's your way to live a happy life? I don't think anyone would like to die without using their accumulated wealth. At least people should utilise their finances properly so that they can live happily and keep their family members happy.

Happiness is a feeling and the way of getting happiness varies from person to person. Many people feel happy by having a smoke. They know that smoking is injurious to health and by smoking they are spoiling the lives of neighbours also. Even they can't give up this habit and they find happiness in smoking only. Some people drink alcohol without any limit and will fall on the road. They feel happy in that sedation. They never give up this habit.
My grandfather used to tell me a story. There was a miser in a village and he was having good quantity of Gold. To keep his gold safe, he dug a pit in the back side of the house and kept the gold there later on covered completely with mud so that no one would have a doubt. Every day he used to sit there for some time and used to feel happy. A distant relative of him observed and started thinking about why this man was sitting daily there. So in the night he went there and dug and found Gold. He took the same and absconded. All the happiness of the man got volatilised.
Having money in the bank may give us some confidence but not happiness.

The minimum requirement is Roti, Kapda and Makaan just for existence.

Happiness comes when we feel satisfied with these as well as anything more from these.

Assuming that a person is having all these basic requirements then what gives him happiness is health and people to love him. The level and base of happiness varies on getting one factor filled and satisfied. Then the mind feels unhappy and seeks happiness in something else. Hence after the three basic essential of Roti-Kapda and Makaan, happiness is purely depending on each individual and circumstances.

I was impressed with a story narrated by Dr Rao wherein he indicated how the miser could get satisfaction by sitting near the spot where he had put his gold and covered the same property. He derived extreme happiness by sitting adjacent to that location.
It is an indication that pleasure varies from man to man and the point of happiness will vary from man to man depending on one's attitude.
I have seen many generous people getting extreme enjoyment by offering food to the others and they feel happy with such kind of generous gesture. Then there are a lot of people who get pleasure torturing people physically or otherwise.

The solution to the question is inside the caption itself. Minimising our requirements itself leads a happy life. As our intention of having more and more of anything ends with sorrow. We are all buying unwanted things in most occasion and suffer with debt. Many news read by us that people in many places are hanging or committing suicide with family as a result of inability of clearing debts.
Many people admitting their children in posh schools by believing that they are providing their children with a good education (here they think the schools other than they think are poor in standard) by obtaining a good volume of loan from outside beyond their capacity of earning. Later by facing problem in repaying the debt they either commit suicide etc., or fall in the sea of sorrow.
So, we control our requirements to our capacity is a good tool for a happy life.

We require a space to live in and we require a piece of cloth to save our body and some food to get the required energy to live on. But the level of these minimums varies from person to person. Once our minimum needs are fulfilled we will think of better amenities. As long as a person is not satisfied with what he is having, he will not be happy. A beggar who had his night food will sleep on the payment happily as he can get his hunger satisfied. But a rich we had an excellent dinner in a 5-star hotel with his friend, may not be able to sleep in an AC room due to the desires he had.
Lesser the wants higher the satisfaction and the higher the happiness. This is my understanding about. If I am not expecting any RSB from ISC, I am very happy to contribute here. The moment I think of some RSB I am an unsatisfied man and I am an unhappy man.

It is not an easy job to remain contented in this glittery world where showing off is considered more important than anything else. Even in a family every person may not have same king of thinking. A person needs basic necessities to live a contentful life but these days people are running after things, which isn't within their reach. In pursuit of chasing the unknown, people are absolutely ruining the things they presently have. Accumulating wealth is a good thing but it should be done in a proper manner which yields better returns. Not many people have the skills to effectively manege their money which is the reason they always remain unsatisfied with their life.
Humble yourself or life will do it for you!

It is a cut throat competition that is leading people to become insensitive beings. They don't have any feeling towards anyone and most people are just money-minded. All they want is money at any cost and such is the obsession that they have stopped enjoying their life. Once I was having a conversation with an elderly person and he explained me that money is a medium to purchase not to accumulate. He said money should never sit idle and must be used for some purpose or it will lose its value with time.
    Thanks and regards.

There is no end to our lust. Whatever, we purchase, we can see a lot of variations against its price. Take a case of ordinary shirts available in a mall or Dmart, the price of the product could be around Rs 600/- but the same product can be purchased at Rs 2000/- or even more at a premium location. Even after the final deal, one may not be satisfied with the purchase thinking that the best one has not been attempted.
This applies to all our dealings. Hence we always remain in a state of confusion even once we made a final deal but currently, we see that there is room for better bargaining.
We can have satisfaction if we could minimise our material possessions. However, this needs a radical change in our perception.

Happiness is a state of mind. Many times it does not have any link to the facilities we have. It is also true that some minimum facilities are required in our lives otherwise we cannot survive.
So it will vary from individual to individual to have a happy state of mind but in short if a person is satisfied but he works hard for what he has not got without any greed or attachment then he would be a happy person.

    Knowledge is power.

As per the experts in the field of psychology the main causes of unhappiness are - too much greed, dissatisfaction, jealousness, lack of confidence, too much expectations, and other such states of mind.

Happy the man, whose wish and care,
A few paternal acres bound, Content to breathe his native air,
In his own ground. (by - Alexander Pope)
