    Munshi Premchand and Hindi literature

Munshi Premchand was born on 31st July, 1880 in Lamhi, Uttar Pradesh. He is one of the most celebrated writers in Hindi and Urdu literature. Known for his realistic and socially relevant stories, Premchand highlighted the struggles of the common people, especially the poor and marginalized. His works often dealt with issues like poverty, social injustice, and the plight of women. Some of his famous novels include 'Godaan' and 'Nirmala'. Premchand's simple but powerful storytelling made complex social issues accessible to every reader. He wrote more than three hundred short stories and several novels, which continue to inspire readers. His work has had a lasting impact on Indian literature and remains relevant even today. The doyen of Hindi literature left this world on 8th October, 1936.

Today is the 144th birth anniversary of this great writer. Many non-Hindi speakers like me got acquainted with the treasures of Hindi literature after reading the creations of Premchand.

Can we get another writer like Munshi Premchand in our lifetime?

I read some short stories written by Munshi Premchand when I appeared for the Rastra Basha Praveena examination conducted by Dakshin Bharat Hindi Prachara Sabha, Hyderabad. But I have never read his novels. My Uncle was a Hindi pandit in government high school and he was telling about this writer. My uncle used to tell me that Premchand's writings were easy to understand as he used simple words and narration also was very smooth. Many of his works have been translated into other languages. Premchand also participated in the Freedom Movement. He resigned from his government job and joined the freedom movement in response to Mahatma Gandhi's "non-cooperation" movement.
My salutations to this great writer on his 144th Birthday and I thank the author for bringing out some good information about this famous writer.

In Hindi literature Munshi Premchand is one of the greatest writers and almost every school going boy/girl must have read his stories, which is mostly part of the Hindi syllabus in most schools. Sad part is people are not interesting in reading these days and Hindi is losing its charm amongst youngsters. People are more interested in reading English novels and I don't think we will see a Munshi Premchand like writer in the near future.
Humble yourself or life will do it for you!

When I was in my high school I had opportunity to get stories and novels written by Munshi Premchand and I was so much fascinated with his work that one by one, I started to read books written by him. I was lucky in a sense that we had a big district library in our town and there were all the books available written by Munshi Premchand. I was surprised by the volume of the work that Munshi Premchand had created during his lifetime and each and every story written by him is a great example and learning of the social system existing at that time in our society.
His initial writings are mainly related to the village life in our country but his later works are reflecting the lifestyle of Britishers as well as intermingling of Indians and Britishers in India before independence.
On this day I remember and salute to the great Indian author.

He was a brilliant writer knowing the psychology of readers and he wrote according to the taste of the common men. Needless to say, his novels Godaon, Nirmala and other novels have created a positive impact on the minds of the readers. His short collections such as Push ki Raat, Bade Ghar ki Beti, Naamak Ka Daroga and the series of short stories have been written so luckily that readers cannot get such series elsewhere. He was a great legend understanding the sentiments of the common people. This quality of made him a supreme writer.
