How does hunger affect our minds?

Hunger will make us think negatively. Our mood will go low and we will get into depression when we are hungry for a long time.

A psychologist by the name, of Nienke Jonker and his colleagues conducted research on this aspect at the University of Groningen in the Netherlands. Their research revealed that people with hunger will get more negative feelings. They will undergo feelings like depression, anger and tension. They also revealed that such people with hunger for a long time can't think positively.

During such hunger times, people forget all ethics and somehow they think of satisfying their hunger only. A person with hunger can even go to the level of snatching food from the neighbour based on the intensity of his/her hunger level. I like to know the views of other members.

Depending on how much long we are in hunger and how much depraved we are, we may urn from tolerance to intolerance and move on to even showing irrational, abnormal or even mad behaviour. Depending on other individual factors and also the persons in the vicinity it can exhibit varying actions and reactions.

In Tamil there is a phrase,'pasi vanthida patrum paranthu pom's which means hunger drive away every thing. When a person in hunger he will not hear anything as another phrase says ' pasi kaathai adaikkuthu' which means ears get blocked when one in hungry.
Moreover hunger may lead a person sometimes even to steal. Food is the major tool to control hunger.
Food only the thing made one to say 'enough' .

Brain needs a lot of energy to work and that energy comes from food. A hungry man will always think about food and won't be able to concentrate on any other thing. Once the stomach get filled, brain starts to focus on other things.

Numerous show patience and tolerance even in an adverse situation. Hunger alone is the only factor influencing their behaviour but other parameters manipulate their temperament. We have seen a lot of ladies taking fast very often on some occasions such as Nirjala Ekadashi, Chatha, and other holy occasions prolonging their fast beyond a day. This does not affect their way of thinking. This speaks otherwise of their personality.
The degree of hunger can change the behaviour of human beings but to what extent would depend on the man concerned.

When intentionally we go for fasting I think our minds will get tuned for that and we can manage without food during that one day or two-day fasting. But when we want to eat and no food is available, the situation is different. This situation may not make people think negatively. When these no-food days get extended for days together, the person will become more impatient and all the problems mentioned above may happen. Not eating with prior planning is a different situation from not eating due to lack of food, I feel.

If there is the determination to prolong fasting with a good mission, it is sustainable for a day or two. In this sense you are right but then there might be a variation for an additional one day depending upon the determination of an individual.
However, the person concerned might not show his/ her temptation for food. I agree it cannot be stretched beyond a limit.

Hunger is a natural reaction of the body. It is a sign that body wants food to get the energy for its functioning. If we do not supply the food to it then it would make more severe requests for the same. Delaying food can start the process of starvation which is a bad sign and beginning of the deterioration of health.
Whenever hunger pangs are there our minds will concentrate on ways to get the food on priority and other functions will go in the background.

    Thoughts exchanged is knowledge gained.

I usually fast every year and know how it feels when I am hungry. The body becomes weak and it is not at all possible to do some hard work. Brain is always thinking about tasty food and it is not easy to not think about food in hunger. When body doesn't have the fuel it can't perform efficiently, that itself makes the whole body useless.
    Thanks and regards.
