Will you spend immediately or keep new bundle of currency notes

Most of us have a fancy and attraction for new bundle of currency notes. That is because in most places, except for metros and main town we generally get stained, dirty, crumpled or even slightly torn notes for daily use. It is not so common in the small towns, villages and interior places to get fresh notes even from banks.

Sometimes during festival times banks may be distributing fresh notes. It is a tradition for many people to keep fresh currency bundles especially of smaller denominations, in Pooja on festivals like Diwali, Vishu etc. As we may not get fresh currency bundles generally all times, we usually keep those available with us for such festival and pooja occasion.

What about your experiences and practice? Do you get bundles of fresh currency from banks in your place regularly? If you get them only rarely or on few occasions, do you spend them or keep them?

I may sound political and may be subjected to criticism, but to be frank, I have stopped keeping new/ fresh notes for future use since the demonetization. It is not that I am having any extra money to save fresh notes, but I would prefer to spend the money I have in hand or to keep them in the bank for withdrawal as and when required. Why keep aside fresh notes (especially of higher denominations) when you are not sure of their value the next morning.

Sometimes I get new currency notes. If any function nearing, I keep them for using when giving as gift in that occasion. If no function nearing I spend them little by little.
Further l have been told not to keep rupees notes in stock as it may turn otherwise if demonetization announced suddenly.

I do as like Saji described due to demonetisation and in fact my thought immediately go to that when I see the title. Still it is in mind how we went from bank to bank to change few notes we kept. Even after changing I have kept a new 2000 rupees note and even that it is now closed. I have kept few notes due to my number craze.

Sometimes, I get new and crisp notes from bank or ATM. I have a fancy for fresh currency. So what I do is keep the fresh and crisp notes in my reserve cash and spend all the old notes that I already possess.
Recently I got some new and fresh notes of 20 and 50 denomination. I have kept them for future use may be during some Puja or outing.

    Knowledge is power.

I am more in concurrence with Umesh and Ramachandran Pattabhiraman. Whenever I get fresh notes, I take out the old reserve fresh notes. I may also distribute the fresh notes if any of my friends or relatives need it for some function etc. Of course I do not keep much of high denomination notes. Small denomination notes are more needed for cash spends like auto charges, bus tickets etc. But I mix new notes wand old notes while spending. A I always keep some amount of cash for any contingency needs, that reserve is kept as fresh notes as per availability. It comes to help many times., especially when there are continuous bank holidays, on travel or pilgrimage etc.

I am not worried about demonetization, as all the money I have is of savings from my salary/pension/bank interest and fully accounted and tax paid .

We have seen many people using digital transactions such as Google Pay or applying UPI mode for daily requirements. Moreover, such payments are convenient due to the hassle-free process., However, I prefer to visit my bank - branch to collect cash as per my needs. Once the cash is exhausted, a fresh withdrawal is made.
During the process of withdrawal, I get sometimes crisp notes of Rs 50, Rs 100 or even higher donations. I try my best to manage my expenses with soiled notes and in extreme emergencies, fresh notes are used. It is nothing but my undue fascination for fresh currencies.

Yes, Sheo Shankar Jha, I have seen this unique sentiment or frailty or fancy in many people. That is why I raised this post. I am one of those like you.

My brother and his wife were working in SBI. So they used to get me new currency note bundles when I asked them. I used to spend them during some special occasions or functions in our house. For some days, I kept one bundle of each denomination. But now I discontinued that practice. Now my brother and his wife retired and they are not able to get me the bundles. Drawing cash from the bank has become very rare, as we are managing with digital payments.
Sometimes I may be getting new currency notes but not bundles. I will not keep them separately. I will spend them like any other currency note,

Crispy notes look good when kept inside the purse but they have the same value. It's a human nature preserve clean and good things. Some people even have a habit of collecting unique currency coins. I usually collect coins, which are unique. I think such coins may become valuable in future because of their unique features.
    Thanks and regards.

I have also got a fancy for new crisp notes and if I get them I keep them and spend the old notes that I already have.
Nowadays we get fresh currency notes in ATM as well as bank branches so we can get it from there also.

    Thoughts exchanged is knowledge gained.

"It's a human nature preserve clean and good things"( #781674 by Babu). Yes, that may be a reason.

Neeru Bhat, (#781682) I concur with you.

I have the habit of preserving the new notes, whatever be the denomination and use to expend them during pilgrimage or important occasions. Things started changing when salary started getting credited to Bank account directly through ECS/NEFT and also, after demonetization and the chances of getting new notes from Bank or ATM became grim. Still I am having new notes of Rs.10/-, 20/- with me and use for important occassions.
    Regards,
    Jagdish
