Is West Bengal the worst state in India in terms of law and order

The current situation in West Bengal is absolutely out of order and it looks like nobody can control it. The heinous crime they have committed on a woman is unpardonable and what they are doing to cover up the whole thing is disgusting. How can they do such a thing to a woman? Would they do the same thing if their own family member was subjected to such a crime? Why are politicians so heartless in India? The state government has failed to protect a woman in a government hospital. On top of it, they are failing to protect the crime scene and allowing intruders to remove all the evidence. It is a mockery of law and order and higher authorities are just busy protecting themselves instead of doing their work. What a shameful state of affairs in West Bengal, which was once a state known for its intellectuals.

A woman Chief Minister. However, she is not able to protect the interests of the women in that state. Law and order in the State is the subject of the state and the present situation clearly shows the inefficiency of the state government. The CM of the state spends most of her time criticising the central government and always thinks about how to become the PM of the country. She is kind enough to invite the people of Bangladesh to her state but finds no clue to protect the interest of the women in her state.
In the state of West Bengal, law and order position is very bad. The police will not have any liberty. They have to work as agents of the state government. Now CBI has come into the picture and the enquiry is progressing. Why politicians are trying to support the person who committed a crime?

This is an unfortunate case that a doctor having a brilliant academic career and is dedicated to her job has met with a tragic end at the hands of bad elements protected by the medical college. It is not a murder but the plan was hatched a long back as exposed by the report in the Times of India of today's publication.
She was to expose the misdeeds of siphoning medicines planned by the miscreants to end her life.
Unfortunately, a trainee doctor with a pure heart who was so involved in the elimination of their disorders would receive such a treacherous treatment meted out by some goons.
This reflects the total collapse of the machinery of the West Bengal Government.

What Kind of Times Are These

There's a place between two stands of trees where the grass grows uphill
and the old revolutionary road breaks off into shadows
near a meeting-house abandoned by the persecuted
    who disappeared into those shadows.

I've walked there picking mushrooms at the edge of dread, but don't be fooled
this isn't a Russian poem, this is not somewhere else but here,
our country (Please replace 'country' with 'state') moving closer to its own truth and dread,
its own ways of making people disappear.

I won't tell you where the place is, the dark mesh of the woods
meeting the unmarked strip of light—
    ghost-ridden crossroads, leafmold paradise:
I know already who wants to buy it, sell it, make it disappear.

And I won't tell you where it is, so why do I tell you
anything? Because you still listen, because in times like these
to have you listen at all, it's necessary
    to talk about trees.

If a state government cannot take care of the interest of its common people then it is a very bad situation. In such cases people start doubting the integrity of the state government and its leaders and some people even allege that the state government may be having nexus with the criminals and gunda elements in the state.

The only course of action in such a situation is to get the matter investigated by the central agencies like CBI, ED etc and find the truth and then punish the culprits
    whoever they are.

Such a brutal killing sparks violence in other states as well. I heard that a rape of a doctor in Coimbatore occurred three days back and even in Bihar, there is also a case of a rape. If such incidents are not controlled immediately, there is every possibility of the spread of such sort of criminality in other places. This needs to be tackled considering the topmost prerogative by all sensible people to combat such types of barbarous activities.

I heard that the Supreme Court has taken up the issue. The court will be constituted by a bench led by Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud on Tuesday, August 20.
The Home Ministry of the government of India emphasised that the law and order situation in all states should be monitored in light of the protests across the country. CBI is conducting an enquiry into the incident. Some people expect doubt about the enquiry conducted by state police as the body of the deceased was hurriedly cremated. If no sincere efforts are made, facts will not come out.

The most unfortunate part is that the body of the deceased has been cremated without the proper postpartum or a death certificate has been retained showing nothing abnormal. Nothing will come out from such an investigation unless the enquiry committee is sincere enough to examine it through different angles to nab the truth.
Statement of the Principal of RJ Kar Medical College where she was discharging her duty as a trainee doctor should be produced reflecting his adverse words while performing her duty. She was detained several times beyond her duty hours providing a chance for the anti-social elements to move ahead according to their plan to silence her forever.
Let us see how the judgement comes out finally from the Supreme Court.

While I join the nation in condemning the brutal rape and murder of the young Doctor and is also of the opinion that a proper inquiry needs to be conducted to bring out facts, I am also of the opinion like many others that the situation in the hospital that culminated in this brutal act should also be thoroughly investigated. The probable involvement of the pharmaceutical mafia, the role of the hospital administration, the existing facilities in the hospital for doctors and patients and also the assets accumulated by the hospital authorities and staff in the past few years need to be issues that should be covered by the investigating agencies.

Anger and agitation when such incidents occur is nothing new and we still prefer to be a dump society till something drastic happens but what is not acceptable, I feel, is the escalation in the agitations even after the CBI was put in motion to investigate the matter. The intervention of the Supreme Court became inevitable due to the prevailing situation.

To conclude, at the cost of being termed a liberal (still I will express my opinion instead of saying that I am a liberal and maintain silence if I feel that I am on the logical end), I don't think it would be appropriate to say that West Bengal is the worst state in India in terms of law and order just on the basis of this unfortunate incident and the doctors taking to the streets in protest.

There is more to what we see and let us hope the stepping in of the Hon'ble Apex Court will ensure a fair, proper and detailed investigation to bring out the complete facts.

With due respect to the feelings of Saji Ganesh, Lead Editor, I feel that West Bengal is one of the worst states in India. There are some other states which I don't want to name them here which are equally bad. Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai and Delhi are the four top cities in India. But slowly other cities like Hyderabad and Bangalore are developing fast and we are not seeing that much development in Kolkata. One should think about the reasons for the same.
I am confident that facts will come out with the involvement of the apex court in this particular case.

Kolkata is a thug city for sure for what I have seen but I don't know what's the situation of other parts of West Bengal. Crime against women is a major issue all over India but I don't think any other state would have behaved like what Mamta Banerjee did. It looks like the whole West Bengal State Police is nothing but a corrupt organisation that is working in tandem with all the criminal gangs. How can a woman, who is a PGT Trainee in a government college treated like this? Instead of working efficiently they are busy destroying the crime scene. What's the need of such state Police if they don't want to work ethically? If they can do it with a Doctor, then you can imagine what they are doing with women belonging to lower strata of the society.

It is time to bust this terrible state of West Bengal, which is nothing but a place for criminals to flourish under the support of higher authorities. All other metro cities are way ahead of Kolkata just because the people here are not willing to bring a change. They are okay with this corrupt regime, which is slowly and steadily destroying the youth of this state. Criminals are every where and I have myself experienced when I visited this Kolkata city. They will loot you in front of a crowd because they know police will do nothing.

Humble yourself or life will do it for you!

The heinous act is highly deplorable and should be condemned by one and all. Hope with the intervention of the courts, the situation would become normal and the culprits would be brought to book. We all were talking about Manipur incidents few months ago and now its the turn of WB for not handling the situation properly. During the Buddhadeb Bhattacharya's regime he raised a slogan - 'perform or perish' and tried to initiate some reforms. The first two terms of the TMC Government was showing better performance and the emergence of strong political opposition has thrown a challenge for its winning chances in the next elections. Thus political conflicts also contribute for the weakening Law and order in the state.

That is the irony in India. In AP, Jagan and the police force acted at random and destroyed the state. They went to the peak and arrested the present CM. That brought the downfall of Jagan. In the same in West Bengal, people will realise and give their verdict accordingly. People who think power is above the welfare of the people will bite the land oneday. It may take a little more time in some cases.
In the present case, the state police are destroying the witnesses that will bring the truth out. I don't know how far the court can bring out the facts. Let us wait and see.

As a resident of West Bengal, it is quite shameful for me and all the residents here about the crime that happened with the doctor in R G Kar Medical College & Hospital. It is unpardonable and the perpetrators of such a heinous crime must be given exemplary punishment. If we go through the details of the crime, it will be found that even the animals are not so ferocious. Though there is a court-monitored investigation under progress and the apex court has already intervened, there is little doubt about the coverup operation by the state government in collusion with the police. A lot of questions are already doing the rounds and I am sure those who have witnessed the protest movement everywhere around the state and the country must have the same set of queries, if not more. There is no doubt that the police force is totally controlled by the ruling party in the state and interestingly, you will find the situation same in every state where the police force cannot work independently and works under the behest of the ruling party. Police reforms are a must throughout the country and as long as that is not happening such things will be repeated in other states if not in WB. The corruption has increased manifold throughout the state and for the information of the members, I would like to state that the former education minister, former minister of food & supplies and many other officials of those ministries are in jail undergoing investigation. The qualified teachers have been in agitation for a long time at a prominent place in Kolkata demanding jobs because they were not recruited even after clearing the exams. There is an allegation of the involvement of a big racket in the recruitment process of teachers though the investigation has been going on for quite some time. There is politics everywhere throughout the state and I am sure the members are aware of the development here. There is no industry and no one is willing to set up industries here because of the political interference and work culture. All such things must have dented the image of West Bengal which was once a prominent state. Yet, I object to the tag 'thug city' given to Kolkata by Ajay Gupta @ #781760. People of Kolkata are cooperative enough though crimes have increased these days. I do not know about the ranking of the states in our country in terms of law and order but certainly, West Bengal is not among the top in that list.

The reports of mob attacking and destroying the whole hospital, while police fleeing during that moment says it all. What kind of police force they are and why they are getting paid if they don't have the capability to safeguard common citizen. People say Bengali people have a sharp brain, but the condition of West Bengal at moment indicates there is nothing inside their brain. If this is how they are managing the whole state, then God only can save this terrible state. It will surely become the next Bangladesh, if there is no intervention from Central government. Just dismiss this government as soon as possible or West Bengal and the whole region will de doomed for sure.
    Thanks and regards.

West Bengal is going through a rough and turbulent phase and people are attributing it to the failure of law and order. Some are even doubting the integrity of the state Govt and its officials. Police is behaving strangely and I stead of punishing the criminals it is threatening the people doing peaceful march opposing the heinous rape act in the medical college hospital.
If the State Govt itself starts protecting the criminals then what would happen to a common man. And what would happen to safety of women.
If these things continue then central Govt will be forced to announce President rule in West Bengal.

Whatever has happened in West Bengal recently in the R J. Kar Medical College & Hospital echoes a dark phase of security of the trainee doctors. We have talked in detail about the inefficient way of administration of Mamta Banerjee but how the college administration has behaved allowing such a blatant murder to occur under the umbrella of spreading education is incredible.
Nothing has come out from the side of the Principal about how the ghastly murder of the trainee doctor occurred followed by her rape with some perpetrators. The dead body has been cremated without the full investigation of the connected agencies. No comment has come up from the Principal's side exposing the originality of the case. This is indeed surprising.

In any place if the officials try to remove the evidences from the crime scene or things nearby it then it becomes very difficult for the investigating agencies to establish the identification of the criminals involved in it.
Suo moto cognizance by Supreme Court has helped in controlling the situation otherwise doctor's strike was going to be a big problem.
There must be many people who might be aware of the events that night but again because of the fear of the top authorities they would keep silent.
Corrupt people in positions will try to hide their involvement in this crime even if they are not directly involved. Because any enquiry can expose their other wrong doings.
So the problem is the corruption in high places and whatever few honest people are working under such corrupt people keep quiet and do not co-operate in any investigation.
Generally any enquiry in such a condition ends with no results.

What has taken place in West Bengal is a matter of concern for all of us. The safety and protection of individuals, particularly those dedicated to serving society, like doctors, should have been a top priority. Doctors are revered as gods on the Earth in our country and culture. And if even they cannot be protected against the rapists and perverts, and even if the state government hesitates to bring justice for the victim and her family, it gets disheartening.

After such a heinous incident, nothing can undo what has been ruined and lost. And bringing justice to the victim and support to her family is the 'bare minimum' which can be done. However, when those who are supposed to uphold justice fail to bring it on time, leaving victims and their families without the justice they deserve - I am wordless about what is happening in that state.
