Celebrating Shri Krishna's sacred birth
Today is Janmashtami. Janmashtami is the Hindu festival which celebrates the birth of Shri Krishna, one of the most beloved deities in Hindu religion. It usually falls in August or September, on the eighth day (Ashtami) of the Krishna Paksha in the Hindu month of Bhadrapada.Devotees celebrate with great enthusiasm, fasting, singing devotional songs, and performing dances that depict scenes from Krishna's life. Temples are beautifully decorated, and idol of baby Krishna is placed in a cradle, symbolizing His birth. The highlight of the celebration is the "Dahi Handi," where young men form human pyramids to break a pot filled with yogurt, emulating Shri Krishna's love for butter. Janmashtami is a joyful occasion that reminds us of Shri Krishna's teachings of love, compassion, and righteousness.
On this auspicious day, I wish all the very best to the members of ISC.
