Why should one borrow money from others?

Everyone wants to have facilities and conveniences in one's life. Everybody tries to earn money to achieve that objective. But when it comes to earning money then it depends on many factors and it is not easy to earn good amounts in this competitive world. In most of the cases people manage to live within their means but there are some who believe in borrowing from others and have the things which otherwise they could not afford. As their earnings are limited they are not able to repay the loans and then hide here and there.
Why people borrow when they are not in a position to repay? And why should we give money to such people?
What are your views? Do you borrow money or give loan to others on good faith?

As far as I am concerned, I will not borrow money on loan from anybody. But sometimes I give money on loan to some people. In this bargain, I lost some money also. When some people approach me with a very valid reason, if I think that their condition is a pity and they deserve a loan, I give them. But sometimes, they will not repay the same and I am at a loss. One should not go for a loan unless otherwise, it is very essential. But when we take the loan we should have a plan of repaying the same. When we repay our loans only, the person can help somebody else who is in need. If we don't do that, the person who is having the habit of giving loans to others may stop it.
These days many people are spending money by taking loans. I have seen many young people spending freely by taking loans. That is not good and deceiving others by not repaying the loan is never acceptable to anybody.

I strongly feel that one should live within one's means and should never go for loan. We all should try to earn more and more and everyone goes like that only but why we should take money from others? A person may give us on the first instance but if we ask many people like that then our reputation will go down and a day will come when no one will lend us even a rupee.
A person who lives within his means is a happy person.

Borrowing is a financial activity and it is needed for growth of economy and production of goods and services.

At the individual level also, each one has to match the earnings and expenses. But as there are some minimum essentials for a human life, the income should be sufficient enough to satisfy them. There may be some who may not have sufficient means to even satisfy the essential basic needs. It is here that the welfare measures of society and government comes in. The gap is filled by free ration, subsidies, grants and aids ,free facilities etc.

Even those people who generally live within their means also may have some unexpected situations when they need urgent money. As they have means to compensate it later, they borrow the needed money to repay with or without interest as per the borrowing terms.

Anther scenario is of entrepreneurs starting productive ventures and business. The promoters may not have the full initial capital or later working capital to raise their own. So they have to borrow. The governments have discovered that availability of sufficient capital is the main catalyst for growth of production of goods and services and growth of GDP and growth of nation's economy and thus people's financial well being.

Hence borrowing is not to be ridiculed or blamed. It is a necessary activity. However it is to b ensured that borrowing is for a productive activity or for a very essential need. Borrowing for splashing and non-productive spending, especially when one does not have sufficient income to repay will lead into debt trap and financial collapse.

If borrowing is not good and to be stopped, then banking will not exist, and depositors will not get their interest.

One must try to live within his earnings but some might argue that it is not possible always especially because of sudden emergency cases related to health issues of self or family - members. In such a situation, a heavy amount might be required to meet the hospitalization and medical expenses depending upon the hospital the patient is admitted. If it is a multi-speciality hospital the total expenses might be beyond our expectations. We might not be prepared immediately to pay the same amount.
This is an excusable case but we need to park some money for emergency - purpose to meet the casualty. The other feature is one might feel embarrassed if the loan is refused by a friend providing some justifiable reason. In that way, the situation becomes more unbearable.

It is a basic nature of some people and they just can't control their expenses, that's why they are always borrowing money from others. I have come across many such people in my life, who always wanted some money. They borrowed small amount like 500 or 1000 from many people and many people would kindly give it because it was a small amount. The person even borrowed from the local shopkeeper and never returned the money. The shopkeeper was always searching for that person but couldn't find him. Such people usually lose their credibility and nobody trust them in future. Personally, I am not good at asking money so I will never give a big amount to anyone on loan terms. Money can cause a big issue between people and sometimes if can ruin relationships.
Humble yourself or life will do it for you!
