Why some people don't like taking help even in distress?

I think many people must have noticed that some people don't like taking help from anyone even when they are in great distress. There have been many incidents I have encountered, where the person straight away refused to take help. I don't know what's the problem in getting help when you are in distress. Such issues are very common among elderly people and they usually consider it an insult when someone offers help. I don't know why, but it hurts when people behave in such a manner. Atleast they should not be so rude and must accept whatever they are getting. Have you ever encountered such incidents in your life?

Yes. The author is right. I have seen some such people. They come forward to help others but they never accept help from others even though they are in need. They want to come out of their troubles with their efforts. But it is not correct. We need not insist somebody to help us and we need not accept help from the people who are in problems. But when people are coming forward to help and when they are capable, one should not hesitate to accept their help. Once we come out of those problems, we can express our gratefulness and when they are in need we should help them. That will be good.
Some people accept help from others but never extend their helping hand to others. That is a bad trait. That will be treated as selfishness. When people understand the mentality of such people, they may not come forward to help such selfish people.

There are some people who want to be self dependent and feel defeated in taking help from others. Such people are very confident that they can solve the problems themselves and get over the bad times.
    Knowledge is power.

Yes.The author is right. There are some people like this. The reason may be either inferiority complex or ego. When I go to office daily i catch a particular bus route and since I board at terminal point I used to get seat. One day at stopping of my route, two blind persons boarded in the front entrance. Since the bus was full, they have to travel by standing. I just got up from the seat and asked one person to sit there. He suddenly replied,'mo, i don't want your sympathy '. This word hurted me and other surrounding persons.

We must try our best to resolve our problems ourselves as far as possible. It is the best way to solve the intricacies coming in our path. Moreover, they lead a respectful life., Such people opine that getting help very frequently will make them habitual of such a bad practice. The other side of resorting to help always might not produce a positive result. They might not be getting due help in the hours of emergency.
However, we must not be against such help if the same is coming from a reliable friend. The give-and-take policy is ideal provided it is maintained by both parties.

Most of the people take help from others and it is very common. I have not seen any person who refuses the help and believes that he can get the solution himself. This type of people are rare.
Such people must have a very high degree of self confidence.

    Thoughts exchanged is knowledge gained.
