Have you ever done some voluntary service through a voluntary organisation?

There are many voluntary organisations in our country in the nature of NGOs or social service groups. They welcome people to participate in their voluntary services provided to downtrodden people or orphanage or some poor villagers or underprivileged children etc.
Some people do voluntary work by forming small groups but many prefer to join some such organisations and contribute through it. The satisfaction derived from doing voluntary work is well known and many people feel happy about it.
Have you ever done some work through any voluntary agency? What are your experiences? Did you feel good? Please share.

It gives us excellent satisfaction to the individual when he participates in a voluntary service. When people feel happy with our service, our happiness will get doubled.
I have participated in many social service activities. I gave donations to some useful works. I took part in the voluntary service. During my employment in a company, we used to help by giving donations to the schools in the surrounding villages.
We used to conduct medical camps in which we used to participate actively in helping the doctors and the patients. Once we took up the job of whitewashing the school building. Many employees participated. I used to supply food to them as and when required. This entire programme took 6 days. 10 workers, two supervisors used to work there for all these 6 days. I used to help them by going there with their lunch etc.

During my university days, I was actively associated with a science club which used to work with rural people of West Bengal and used to teach them to make drinking water safe. The club used to run campaigns in this regard and distribute chlorine tablets among the villagers.

In Delhi, I was associated with an NGO which used to work with aged and lonely people at the fag end of their life. The team used to spend time with such very old people on holidays. Sometimes the team used to write letters on behalf of those old people to their children or relatives living elsewhere (outside Delhi or outside India).

I also worked with an NGO which used to work for the rehabilitation of drug-addict teenagers. I gave a detailed description of the activities of the NGO workers in one or two threads posted here by me in earlier days. The work was very interesting, satisfying and intellectually challenging.

During my childhood I was associated with a voluntary group in my village which carried out cleaning of village lanes and removed stones, cow dung, and other waste material and shifted it to a low area nearby where we had pits for making manure from cow dung, grass, and tree leaves.
We were doing it once a week in the morning for 2-3 hours and people of different ages from children to old persons participated in it.

    Knowledge is power.

Though it may not be taken as service but still I van say here that I have taught to the people in an academy free of cost because that academy is meant for disabled and hence this amount they cannot shell out and it may be useful for other expenditure as they are in mates of the academy. Recently the founder who is also disabled and done his noble service to this population by giving his entire acres of land and doing a good institution as well as their medical care and service by giving them shelter and got recognition from GOI. I have written many articles and threads in this portal too.
