Let us flip through the memory album and pick up the gems

It is a fluid situation now in ISC. But there is a slight relief that forum section is going to be kept open. That is a cheering news for most members especially the members who are more active in forum.

Let us take this a small respite to go back see how we all fared in the past.

Partha videthis 2017 thread provided one such opportunity. It will be interesting and even nostalgic for members to go through the various thread referred there.

Here through this thread also I request members to go back and select a couple of threads which they still remember and consider as good or best in their postings. It will be nice if they can say why they consider it good or best.

I also request the members of ISC to mention their best forum posts (5-10) and provide the links. If the members do this, then around 100 beautiful forum posts can be read at the same place without searching.

After seeing this thread I have visited 'My threads'. Only the first three pages were visited and the following are selected at random. Probably other members may find them satisfactory.
    1. A biased judge will deliver wrong judgement only
    2. Never shout, think of improving your argument abilities
    3. If possible help others, but never harm them
    4. Which of the two is more important? Wisdom or wealth
    5. Sustained efforts will yield the desired results

It was a nostalgic experience to go back to our old threads. Keeping in mind the thread by Partha under reference in mind, I have selected some threads, from among the few I posted, which I think are still fresh and good-

    1. Are we really connected
    2. One wrong answer actually suggests ignorance of two right answers
    3. Should we enjoy being original writers rather than relying on technology
    4. Should critical thinking be one of the important aims of education?
    5. How strict must be parents to their kids

To be frank, I am feeling a bit guilty seeing the number of threads I posted in the past few years. Waiting for the new version of ISC to do better.

I am mentioning some of my relatively recent Forum posts which have given me immense satisfaction as a writer. Some of these have received many responses but some have failed to attract the attention of members.

    (a) Vellayi Gopuram
    (b) The villagers including the headman
    (c) The boy came back
    (d) A Timeline of Israel: We must know the History
    (e) One aspect is least discussed
(f)Even in his death, the Gandhian educationist remained different
    (g) Ten beer-guzzling men & Taxation system
    (h) Three trained camels (in three parts)

The above list is not exhaustive.

In this regard on this day of Vijayadasami/Dussera, I would like to recall my article on Navaratri , which I posted in 2011 just in the first quarter of my joining ISC.
Navaratri- nine night divine festival of India- legend, significance, customs and celebration

On my search, I discovered a real gem from my creativity- a post which surprised me and made me ask myself how could I come with such a piece. The comment by late ISCian SuN in his response is a proof of it. I would like members to comment how they feel about it now.
How ISC changed my life" OR “A true confession of a misogamist

As I have a problem in sharing links I could not do so.even opening links also mostly not happening. But opening your article on navratri and on ISC is opened and read them. Really it is interesting to read and always when we read later something will make us to feel like that. Anyhow happy to share one such happened in 2011.

Today, when I was going through my ISC forum sections, I saw a story contest submission which was my first one. Very surprisingly I was able to become a Runner-up in that very first participation. For me, that day was a very happy day when I saw the result.
At the same time, I also remember that the struggle of mine to submit that story within the word limitation factor announced because after drafting the story it was very lengthy. I tried to shorten it repeatedly but did not reach the word limiting factor. If I remove any word or sentence to shorten the story it does not get the intended meaning. Moreover, had no writing skills, sentence-making, grammar skills, etc.(I was new to this site & contest) Anyway I shortened the word count by joining 2 words by hyphens (-) etc, and submitted it.
    The contest was "New Unique Christmas Stories" where I submitted my story as "Daddy's Christmas Gift" for which the link (1) is below ;

    (1)Daddy's Christmas Gift

This encouraged me a very lot and I used to participate in the forum contests regularly.

(2)Old and alone but still strong

    (3) Will our views on any subject ever meet?
These 2 were photo-based creative stories.

(4)Treat your own deserted life by giving nourishments to others deserted life

Now when I read the contents of these write-ups, it touches my heart ( look not into the grammar or correctness of the sentences).
Truly, ISC was a very helpful platform for many to bring out their talent and imagination with helping guides to improve their writing skills.

I personally thank Vandana Maam, who helped me a lot with this ISC platform. She is a very good selfless helpful guide for all, I think so.

While reading your post @kb, in one of the threads on deserts I have responded to it. Definitely by sharing such threads everyone can go back to that time and relish the memories.

It is nice to see that members are going to their old posts in ISC and get a feeling of nostalgia with satisfaction and sweetness. I am happy that members who were not much active recently are also coming back to the site and taking note of the happenings.
While reading the response #782287 @kb, at first could not recollect about such a member. Then on my further exploring and searching I could discover that the earlier username of the member was different and knowing that I could recap. The member was more active during 2014, and I was relatively less active in forum then as I was involved in my house construction and relocation.
But I had responded to many of her posts otherwise. kb(in the earlier user name ) was an active contributor especially participating in contests and winning.

I hope kb will now keep this forum active to keep it afloat till the new site comes into effect,

Sir, as you said, earlier I was somewhat active and participated in competitions. Those days were thrilling. There were several active competitions and competitors. Some of the members like Mr.Sun(late) and Mr.Jeet, even had some funny and entertaining competitions individually and arguments occasionally which were the added spices and attractions in the ISC forum section. I also did not like those arguments in my early ISC days. But then I realized that the beauty of this site itself is their arguments and war of words.

After that, I was also busy with my family and personal commitments. Also, I am a working woman. Even then, whenever I had free time in the office, I used to browse the ISC channel, and (still) whenever I feel bored or need to refresh my mind, I use to visit the ISC forum section.
    Thanks Sir.

    Kb,

I am happy to see you again and thank you for your kind words. It is not just me, but the entire community of members who are selfless guides. We have often received great advice and helpful tips, whether it is something related to submitting content at ISC or associated with a household appliance, a cooking disaster...just about anything at all.

As I said earlier I could not attach URLs, I am giving the gist of two of my threads earlier where I have found out an interesting thing only today. In one of the thread I have raised about FB, a member named Kailash Kumar has this name from his original name turns out to be the meaning of this name as son of Kaila sh. Any guess on his original name?

Second thread I have shared about translation of regional language words, it may turn out to be different meaning in other languages where I have many interesting stories shared by other members.

So as I asked in earlier response if any member go through my threads and share these two threads will highly be appreciated. And virtual gift will be sent for the two, one is guess and other is for URLs. Any takers?

Without mentioning the title or the URL, it is tough to find our forums with the information you gave, Sarojah. At least if you can mention the year of publication, we can try to trace out those threads.

Thank you Dr.Rao for your response. If you go to my page by clicking any of my reply and from there if you go to my contribution and then to forum, it is easy to find out as the title itself suggested the content of FB, also the regional language as I have not posted many threads later it is in first one or two pages only.

As requested both are from 2018.

Sarojha, please copy the title of the thread(s) in the response. From that we-members reading that-can search and attach the link in our subsequent response.

  • #782382
Sarojha, "Second thread I have shared about translation of regional language words, it may turn out to be different meaning in other languages where I have many interesting stories shared by other members."

Is it this thread you meant from the quoted statement?

  • #782384
Thanks @ Venkteswaran since your referred link is not opening to me I am putting thread here https://www.indiastudychannel.com/forum/158871-It-may-not-be-suitable-if-we-translate-as-per-our-regional-language.aspx. but I felt you would have given the same link as you are expert in putting links from old as you have recently put the link of my other thread virtual home.

So my finger crossed for the other one which is very easy to trace because I have given two clues FB and year 2018.

Thanks for this thread to go through our album to gear up our memory lane.

    shasthranaam Ganitham moordhanisthitham

  • #782385
Sarojha ,I am giving the link of your thread referred in your above post #782384.
It may not be suitable if we translate as per our regional language.

( The other thread on FB may be this thread titled "What are all the gimmicks you have enjoyed in FB."

  • #782386
Yes @ venkiteswaran I am sending virtual gift. In the thread itself the answer to the question is available. He himself referred to the blog.
