    Is there enough time?

On the one hand, we are told that the universe is infinite. On the other, there are reports about the supposed end of the universe due to heat death, which would take place in a Gogol (which is one followed by 100 zeros). That is, the universe will sort of wind down and eventually meet its end.

An interesting piece in The Indian Express yesterday discussed this doomsday prophecy as either a cause for despair or an inspiration to do things that matter to us, whether a travel plan or an unfinished creative write-up.

Do you believe in the prophecy? Are you going to be inspired to do something that you have put off till now?

As far as I am concerned, I don't believe in prophecies and am neither in despair nor am I going to get inspiration to do something based merely on this prophecy!

How long we are going to live? What is our present age? The maximum span of life normally for a human being is 100 years. I am sure nothing such sort will happen within my lifetime. So I am not in a hurry that I have to do all the things today itself. I will not get inspired by these prophecies. But one should respect the environment and one should not abuse the same.

Our Vedic literature have already said about the cycles of creation and destruction of Universe. I think most Indians who have some awareness or even hearsay about our Vedic texts know this. Most Panchang says about the 'Kali Din Sankhya" or the number of days that have already passed in this Kali Yug as on that day. So it is a common knowledge for those who have at least some basic knowledge about our ancestral traditions and texts.
We have the concept of 'Chatur Yug" - the four Yugas,"" Krita Yuga, Treta Yuga, Dwapara Yuga and Kali Yuga". Each Yuga has been assigned the number of Human Years also. So it is given how many years this Kaliyuga has, in the current quartet of Yugas in the current Manwantara-which is a quantum of one Chatur Yuga cycle completion. Then next Manwantara starts.
So as per Hindu or India traditional wisdom and knowledge, there is not total destruction, but there are partial periodical destructions and cyclic creations too.

So let us not worry. Lt us do whatever possible in our own way to nurture the present world without causing destruction deliberately.

I get what you mean—while the idea of the universe ending sounds intense, it's not something that should change how we live. I think it's more about focusing on what matters now, rather than rushing to finish things just because of a prophecy. For me, it's just a reminder to keep doing what I enjoy, without waiting for some cosmic deadline.

The next moment itself being uncertain, I don't think we need to worry about such beliefs or prophecies. Let us enjoy and make the best out of the present before the clock ticks the next second.
