Makar sankranti, every Indian's festival
Though God is called in different names He is one. Similarly this Makar Sankranti festival is a festival universally celebrated in all parts of our country as ours is basically an agricultural one. We feel proud that we are feeding many through our agricultural produce.Makar Sankranti is celebrated in all parts of our Country. It is the universal festival as worshipping Sun God thanking Him for His Grace to get a good yield of Grains. As the farmers get a good volume of money on their hard work in the field and the celebrate the day with happy by wearing new cloths as they didn't concentrate on their happiness due severe work in the field.
In Tamilnadu it is celebrated as Pongal festival by discarding old items on the previous day of Pongal called as Bhogi. On the day of Bhogi, they prepare feast with poli. On the day of Pongal they worship Sun God by offering Sweet Pongal prepared with rice, dhal, jaggery and ghee. Next day of Pongal day they decorate their cattles, fed well by showing Gratitude.
In Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka also they celebrate with the name of Makar Sankranti.
In Gujarat they celebrate in they celebrate in the name of Makar Sankranti or Uthraayan. On the day of Uthraayan they collectively enjoy by flying kites. On the second day, vaasi Uthraayan the prepare "Unthilu" a food dish prepared with vegetables,nuts and jaggery.
In Bihar and Jharkhand this festival is celebrated in the name of chakrath or Kichadi. First day the take bath in rivers and offer laddus made of sesame (thil). Second day they prepare kichadi with rice, peas and dhal and share with others.
In Punjab it is celebrated in the name of Lohri on the first day and as Mahi on the second day. They fly kites on the Lohri day and worship by liting fire.
In Maharashtra it is celebrated for three days as in Tamil Nadu. First day bhogi, second day Sankrant and third day Kingrand. They prepare sesame Laddu, poli and Halwa on these days.
