Can you suggest optimum specifications for a new desktop for me

My present desktop which I am using is a Windows PC with original Windows 8 automatically migrated to Windows 10.
But it had undergone many patch up jobs and many components including hard disk have been changed. It has become difficult now to smoothly operate it a the RAM is only 2 GB RAM now. It was earlier 4GB RAM , but in due course one RAM slot became deflective and the other could not take a 4RAM piece. The technician ha told that the PC as such cannot be upgraded and I have to go for a new PC with more capacity and update hardware and software.

I request learned and experienced members to suggest me an optimum specification for a new assembled desktop PC to run Windows 11.

I need surfing, Mail, social sites like ISC, Train ticket booking, Banking transaction, storing photos and videoclips; and the general office work software for a home computer.

It should be reasonably durable and functional for a few years, reasonably price favourable and sufficient for my day to day needs like now.

I expect considered suggestions from members.

The activities you mentioned here require a simple configuration, so a high-end processor or RAM is not necessary for Windows 11. A 64-bit processor with two cores and a clock speed of more than 1 GHz would be a good idea. A minimum of 4 GB RAM is required and for the Hard drive, go for 1 TB, which is quite cost-effective. A mix of SSD and HDD for storage would be nice where you can go for 500 GB SSD & 1 TB HDD. For processors, you can go for Intel/AMD, and for storage space don't go for the cheap Chinese varieties. You must go for an Anti-virus software even though there will be Windows Defender and automatic updates with the original operating system.

Upgrading an older machine is just wasting money if you are looking to run a modern operating system like Windows 11. It won't work smoothly no matter what you upgrade from a RAM to SDD or HDD because the processor you are using will be an outdated one. The machine will heat a lot because processor won't be able to handle Windows 11. You can have at least 8 GB RAM and HDD or SDD and run that older machine but it will be a headache in long run.

On the other hand a Chromebook offers users an operating system that doesn't need much hardware while offering a better battery life (in case of laptop). I don't know why people don't opt for Chromebook when they are not interested in gaming or any heavy tasks. For basic tasks it is the best OS and many college going students have started using Chromebooks now. Windows on the other hand offers garbage that you need to upgrade every 5 years. If you don't upgrade Windows will become hard to operate and everything will freeze. Most of the laptops in last 10 to 15 years have gone to the garbage because they are not getting any updates from Microsoft.

Humble yourself or life will do it for you!

#782626 :".... go for an Anti-virus software e...." : yes I am using Kaspersky Internet Security since last few years. Thanks for your suggestions. I shall tell this to the computer vendor when I finalise .

#782626: thanks for your suggestion with a different view. I would try to know more about Chromebook and then take a decision on the matter. Anyway I am going to buy a new machine only and not going to improve on the present device.
