Gandhi in Valmiki Basti
Mohandas Gandhi once started reciting the Quran in the Valmiki Basti temple in Delhi. A woman stood up from the crowd and asked Gandhi not to do that. Gandhi asked, "Why?"
The woman said that it was against her religion. Gandhi said, "I don't believe that." The woman replied that they did not consider him qualified enough to dictate their religion.
Gandhi said, "Take the vote of the people there." "Can religion be decided by vote?" the woman asked. "You are interfering with my religion," Gandhi replied. The woman stated that Gandhi was illegally interfering with the religion of crores of Hindus.
Gandhi said, "I will listen to the Quran." The woman said that she would oppose it.
Hundreds of Valmiki youth stood by the woman and said, "Read the Quran in this temple, but before reading the Quran in the temple, recite the Gita or the Ramayana in the mosque."
Seeing the protests increasing, Gandhi called the police, who arrived and the police arrested the protesters. 107 cases were registered against them.
Later, Gandhi recited the Quran under police protection in the same temple.
Naturally, many people dislike Mohandas Gandhi because of his hypocrisy.
