India has already ceased to be an agricultural economy. Like all other developed countries, the contribution of the services sector in the GDP has been steadily increasing in India and the contribution of agricultural sector is steadily decreasing, while the contribution of manufacturing sector has almost remained same.
However, in India, a very large number of people are engaged in agricultural sector. This creates under employment. We have to reduce the number of people engaged in agricultural sector without any adverse effect on agricultural productivity.

People are slowly showing interest in IT and other jobs and moving away from agricultural activities. That is why there is a lot of demand for agricultural workers in the villages of India. Mechanisation is picking up in agriculture is the order of the day. There are even drones that are being employed in the Agriculture sector.
As mentioned by Partha, the manpower requirement in agricultural activities should be reduced to the minimum. Otherwise, farmers can't expect any profits from their activities.

Since India is one of the most populous nations in the world and the majority of its farmers lack formal education, it is also very difficult to train all of them in agriculture using modern techniques and equipment like drones. As a result, crop productivity is low, and we import different essential food commodities from other countries. Why can't the farmer sons continue farming if they are somewhat educated to use modern equipment and techniques?
