Kashmir problem is with the world since 1947, the year of the partition of India. Indian part of the Kashmir is about 45 percent of the original Kingdom of the Jammu and Kashmir, about 35 percent is now in Pakistan, and China has occupied the other 20 percent in 1962.
The UN and the U.S want both sides to keep on the discussions, but the important question is on what basis the discussion can take place.
The unresolved status of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute has pushed India and Pakistan to three wars in addition to three minor ones.
Previous Governments were engaged in confidence building measures, but this govt has failed to do so. And the response from across the border is also astonoishing.

Who knows this issue better than a J&K resident like me.
Interestingly, recently I was surfing the net looking for some facts that I came to know that the Kashmir issue has been registered in the Guiness Book of World Records for the longest running political issue.
The Indian govt. doesnot want to lose Kashmir while the most of the Kashmiris want to be a part of Pakistan.
The Jammu region is totally unaffected by this because they consider themselves as an integral part of India.
But in Kashmir the situation is worst because every now and then we see people chanting the slogans of 'Pakistan Zindabad' while the main reason why this separation is not fully supported by the state govt. is that Kashmir gets heavily paid by the Indian govt. in the name of tourism, development etc while Pakistan won't be doing the same.
Pay no heed to those who talk behind your back, it simply means that you are two steps ahead !
Kashmir is the victim of politics since Independence. The political game is taking the lives of many youth in India & Pakistan. It is due to politics that the Kashmir problem had not been solved. Pakistan's bureaucracy is mainly responsible for this situation.
