Are counselors necessary for schools students?

There is a lot of stress among students these days. Stress in education, stress among friends etc. This is a time when students and teenagers need guidance and therefore the demand for school counselors is increasing day by day. These counselors help students to reduce stress and to cope with education better.

Do you think that counselors should be made necessary in all schools?

I don't think that the counsellors are needed in small schools with strength up to 450-500 where the teachers and the principals can handle the work of a counsellor and save the parents from unnecessary burden of increased fees due to an additional salary to be paid to a counsellor. The number of students needing counselling in such schools will be quite less which can be easily handled by the school principal or headmistress / headmaster and teachers. Of course, the schools charging high rates of fees or where the strength of the school is quite large, it will be good idea to have a counsellor in the school. The number of counsellors can be increased in proportionate to the strength of the students in the school. In my opinion, one counsellor for every 1000 school strength will suffice. The counsellors ought to be well trained to understand the psychological problems of the young children, especially those who are passing through their adolescence.

I feel having counsellors in a school will help students in many ways. Actually, teachers play a major role in the life of the students and their growth, but they have very limited time to spare with the students and counsel them for development. They have to complete their syllabus and keep their mind in revision work. In the mean time they may fail to keep attention on the every student equal manner. If the school has a counsellor then he can counsel the poor students and share his observations with the respective teachers then it will be more helpful to the students and their growth.

In my opinion, teachers can be the best counselor for the school children. They know the strength and weakness of every child very well. Therefore, they are able to provide the necessary guidance to the students.

On the other hand, hiring extra counselor will increase the burden on parent's wallet. They will be required to pay extra fees for this system.

I think parents and teachers prove to be the best counselors for school going children. At home, proper guidance and moral support from parents is the basic thing that should be given to children. And the children feels free to express their worries or problems if any. May be this thing a counselor may not handle in case of small kids.
And in schools or study related things, teachers are the best supporters who can provide with the proper guidance one needs.

Teenage people are more prone for counseling due to stress and other things. They start behaving weird sometimes and get easily annoyed over small un-favoured things. In that case, parents think that they are not under their control and so, they rush up to the counselors. Counseling may help in such situations because many teenage children are likely to open up their minds to some external rather than discussing it with parents.

    Hi,

Career counseling and guidance is an important aspect every school should focus on. The advantages of counseling are many provided the counselors are knowledgeable and have updated information about the subjects and also a fair idea about student psychology.

a)It will help the students to come to clear decision of selecting a subject or career based on their strengths.

    b) They can confidently reverse the pressure of the parents if it all it exists in selecting a particular course or subject with proper explanation.

    c) Students will be thankful to the management for helping them out through counseling.

    d) counseling may not be limited to career or subjects it can be extended to any thing that helps the student to progress.
