As per our culture, generally the idol of Nandi is placed in front of Lord Shiva. Here also, there is a large idol of Nandi in Mahalingeswar temple. This idol of Nandi is carved in black rock. In Karnataka, Nandi is famously known by the name of Basaveshwar.
