About Basti Basti district was formed in 1865. It is believed that the name 'Basti' originated from the name of guru Vashistha, the guru of Lord Rama, who had his ashram in this region. About 94% of Basti district is rural area. Agriculture is the main occupation. The ditrict is well-connected with railways and roadways.
