Krishnas Butter Ball located at Mahaballipuram

Krishna’s butter ball is a major tourist attraction at Mahaballipuram - located approximately 60km South of Chennai. The locals refer to this wonder as ‘Vaanirai Kal’ which means the Sky God’s stone. The 20’ high rock is over 16’ wide. The oddly shaped rock defies laws of physics, as an extremely small portion of the rock balances itself on a rather smooth and slippery hillock. It has stood there for hundreds of years. In the early 1900s the then Governor of Madras is said to have attempted to have the rock moved, using 7 elephants to push the rock, but was unsuccessful.
