Pamban Bridge

The Pamban Bridge is a cantilever bridge over the Palk Strait, connecting Rameswaram to mainland India. It is the oldest bridge, in India, to be built over sea. The bridge is said to be an engineering marvel as it stands in one of the most corrosive environments. A dedicated work-force helps maintain the bridge, by checking and correcting flaws on a daily basis. With 143 piers, spanning 2 km between the mainland and the island, it is the second longest sea bridge in India after the 2.3-km Bandra-Worli sea link on Mumbai's western coast.
