Banumaiah’s Boy’s High School, Mysore, which gave me proper foundation

Banumaiah's High School at Mysore is one of the oldest school, the teaching fraternity, lab equipments, film shows were excellent those days.

It was in 1972, when I joined this school after completing my 7th standard, I was bit tense when I was taking application form in this school, I paid Rs.20/- as admission which also included the annual fees, library fees etc., but only thing which we paid extra every month was Rs.3/- towards CFC, which means Children’s Film Society, there will be a film show on every Saturday and occasionally on some Sunday’s, most of the films we have seen were of Laurel & Hardy and Charlie Chaplin movies and sometimes to change the taste few adventurous movies were also shown.

Regarding this school, I have to remember for my life, as this was the place where I got my foundation of not only for studies but for life too, the school consisting of teachers most of them from ‘Vaishnava’ community and few of them from ‘Madhwa’ community, as the festive occasions were more in these two communities, we used to get holidays quite often.

In the first year of my High School I was selected for school cricket team and later in the second half I was made captain of the school team, as we used to practice a ground which was there at that time adjacent to palace entrance from eastern side and opposite to Banumaiah’s School.

When I was studying the name of the school was ‘D.Banumaiah’s High School’, as the school was only for boys, later even the girls school was also started and name has been changed as ‘Banumaiah’s Boys’s High School’.

In the year 1975 after completing my 10th Standard, a farewell ceremony was arranged, that day was so memorable that even now I can remember the menu prepared on that day.

Our school had other activities like NCC and ACC was also there, when we were in 9th standard an excursion was arranged to Somanathapura, Halebeedu and Shravanabelagola on that day we have enjoyed a lot and the total distance we have traveled to complete that excursion was minimum as we came back on the same day.

To be honest there is nothing to say about dislikes about that school, the school was so homely that I have not absented not even a single day in whole three years of my high school life, the environment in that school was like that.

Though few of my friends who have studied with me in that school were still accessible and due to hectic work schedules, and the distance to be covered to meet each other is also much, above all the way of life after reaching certain age will change drastically without our notice, all these reasons distanced us but in spite we used to make calls once in a while.
