Education and Effective Democracy

Having an educated society is important for running a democratic system effectively. This article highlights that how education and democracy are related with each other.

Indian democracy is the largest democratic system in the world and it gives utmost importance to people of the country in order to run the country. The system has both bad and good sides as it is very much dependent upon the common people and thus on their strong and week sides. A democratic system becomes active and produces bet result for the country when it truly reflects what the countrymen want.

In order to make the system active the main thing we need is the conscious people who are sincere about themselves and the country. To make the people conscious about the society and the country there is a need of proper education. Thus where the rate of literacy is less, system may fail there because in most cases uneducated people can not analyze critical aspects and are often misguided. As a result dirty politics initiated and nourished by corrupted politicians and Government officers paralyzes the whole system and the poor innocent country people become subject to suffer.

The adverse effect of the system has been many part of our country has been notices as illiteracy was one of the major concerns for the country. Here the literacy rate and poverty are linked together as poverty causes illiteracy here. The poor families send their children to work rather than sending them to school for having proper education because children's earning can provide supplement to total earning of the family and that provides better living. According to them education provides no food so it is better to go for job rather than wasting time for acquiring useless knowledge. And as result these people are victims of corrupted politics as they are easy to make fool and corrupted leaders never waste these opportunities. Those areas remain undeveloped but those leader remains in power years after year because people are blind there and they are gagged.

Thus it can be easily understood that education and democracy are related with each other indirectly as it is the educated people who can run the system properly. Education gives us power; it gives us maturity to think and make choice considering a number of aspects keeping them in mind which can be termed as complex decision making. Education gives us status, self respect and courage to protest against all odds. Thus a society that has good number of educated people can make most profits from the democracy. It is education that create the sense that what is good and what is bad for us, it is the education the tells us here we are the determiner and thus we have to cast our vote for right people depending upon our own assessment and own opinion rather than being misguided by opinions of other people.

It is quite easy to establish the link between the education and democracy but it seems to be a hard challenge to spread the education across the country. The first thing we need to do is eradicating poverty up to a level. After that we need to ensure that every person in the society is getting a basic education that can make them self dependent. Next, we have to increase job opportunities and have to take other initiatives to improve the life style of the society. Improvement of life style will result into increase in number of highly educated people as it is indirectly linked with desire for higher education. By this way we can create a civilized society and can utilize the democratic system for development and improvement of the country effectively.
