Does flogging uplift the students?
Earlier flogging activity was very common but now this activity is gathering a lot of criticisms. Is it fair?

Earlier people strongly believed in the preposition "Spare the rod and spoil the child". Students were sternly flogged by their teachers even if they committed a silly mistake. They believed that if the students were not shown strictness by physical punishment then the children would not turn to be disciplined. A rod, cane or a ruler was like a watch that was kept by the teachers. You also remember your grandparents narrating their childhood with the flogging done by teachers. If you watch the old English movie "David Copperfield" written by Oliver Twist you come across a scene where the little pauper boy who is flogged by the teacher for not able to solve a simple Maths problems. His mother who comes to visit him periodically is shedding tears. The hands of the students would swell out by teh caning of the teachers. If you read the stories of the earlier authors you come across students who used to apply oils for preventing the pain. If you read the story " A boy with a catapult" you read a sentence where an abnormal boy used to apply the smear of the frog to prevent the pain. All these illustrations just show the trend of flogging those days.
But today, neither the teachers nor the parents believe that spanking improves the overall personality of the children. Spanking or the feel of the ruler creates a fear in the minds of the students. Students are sensitive to flogging. They always feel the compulsion to do the homework or study, just because they want to prevent the pain felt by flogging. If a teacher continuously flogs the student then he loses his basic interest in studies and always feels the pressure. Students although should be taught discipline should also be given the space for creativity. They should be given the space to think independently and should not be suffocated by the teachers. If a child has constant misbehavior in classroom only then he should be strictly adhered.
Students can be taught discipline in a right way and the punishment given by the teachers should be reasonable and should boost the children to improve next time.
Students are the future of the nation and they should be fed with proper knowledge.
Gone are days when we were children and we were really terrified to go to school, because the teacher used to ask us to bring the stick and that is meant to beat us. That too the beating will be done by asking us to change the hand upside down, surely the pain will be great. Due to fear of flogging the students used to absent more. But after that rules have changed in the education sector and it is now made a rule not to beat the students and instead give punishment in different mild ways. But I feel that a strict teacher do make a difference in the life of a student and that will help him to develop in many ways. Parents are not going to beat the children nor scold them, so teachers must exercise that right and mend the erring students to the right path.
