Rameshwaram - A Hindus Sacred place
Rameshwaram is one of the most visited sacred places of Hindus in india. The pilgrims from all parts of the world visit this place for exploring the Ram temple.
Ramshwaram is one of the holy places of Hindus. This is famous for Ram-Sethu described in one of the great epics of India, Ramayana written by Valmiki. In Ramayana, rameshwaram is mentioned as a sacred place. It is belived that when Ravana apprehended Sita to Srilanka. Ram invaded over Srilanka. While going for Srilanka he halted at Rameshwaram for building of Sethu (means a bridge) between India and Srilanka. His army men were only monkeys. That is why Hindus even today praying Hanuman(other form of monkey). Rameshwaram located at the southen part of India. Even today one can witness the broken sethu. There are more than 30 sandy heaps between India and Srilanka. This is one of the most tourist attraction in india. Especially people from Uttarpradesh, Bihar and Madhyapradesh visit this temple in large numbers.
ABOUT RAM TEMPLE:
There is a huge temple built in the name of Ram. This temple is really spectacular. This was built in around 17th century. All giant pillars were made up of a single stone. The statues are carved out of a single stone. There are four entrances to this temple. Large number of people offers their offerings to the god Rama. The architecture of the temple is really a mesmerising. moment.
HOW TO REACH RAMESHWARAM:
You can reach Rameshwaram from anypart of India. This is the most famous place of Hindus. From Chennai you have both train and bus. You can avail the train from Egmore, Chennai. The bus can be availed from Koyamedu Bus Stand. There is a road and track link from almost all the major towns of India. Rameshwaram is in the district of Ramanathapuram. From Ramanathapuram you have only 50 km to reach the holy place. Many tour operators rendering their services by offering packaged tour to this sacred place.
EXPENDITURE:
From chennai the ticket fare to Rameshwaram is around Rs 350/-(approx) and for the bus also almost same. The tour operators offers packaged tour to Rameshwaram for reasonable cost.
OTHER ATTRACTIONS ON THE WAY:
On the way to Rameshwaram, you have a nice sany beach called 'Aryaman Beach' which is at a distance of around 10km from Rameshwaram. You can take the pleasure of this beach with an entry fee of Rs 20/-(for your vehicle only). This Beach is really sandy and enthusiastic. Many people reach this Beach as a group for organising picnic.
There is one more temple called 'Temple of Ramar Padam' means that 'Temple of Ramar feet' . This temple is built in memory of Rama, it is believed that here he spent few days before leaving to Srilanka.
The most attraction on the way to Rameshwaram is 'Pamban Bridge' this is really spectacular. This bridge is built by British. This Bridge is almost 3km long. At the centre of this Bridge there is a facility of Opening and Closing for the passing of Vessels. There is a train track in the Bridge, other vehicles are not allowed. For other vehicles, besides this Bridge, there is one more Bridge built for the Vehicles. Now thousands of trucks , buses, jeeps, and omni are making trip to this sacred plalce.
WHERE TO STAY:
In Rameshwaram you have lot of lodges and Restaurants for staying till accomplishment of your trip. The ranges for the room is in between 300-500 for one day. Here in the hotels you can get north indian foods as well. It is really a land of peace.
LANUGAGES SPOKEN:
Undoubetedly Rameshwaram is in Tamil Nadu so, one can understand that the major language spoken here is Tamil. Apart from this language , the residents of this area fluently speak Hindi and Malayalam. No problem for Indian tourists but foreign tourists can take the help of tour operators and guide.
Caution: While stopping at the Pamban Bridge to take some photographs and to enjoy the beauty of nature, the children should be well taken care of. The road was declared as a National Highway . So, it has observed many times, the tourists enjoying the beauty of nature just forgetting their children. In the meanwhile the children becoming victim for accident. So, be careful and make your trip very interesting and charming.
