Are Weak Students Studying In Schools Treated Unfair?

Always weak students become a laughing stock in a class. Students always make fun of these kids and even teachers often insult them in front of everyone. Is this the right way to treat little kids.

Memories about school days

When you recall the early memories of your childhood days you may remember how your classmates treated you or your teachers behaved with you if you was a below-average student in school. If you was a smart student, then you might have noticed how badly the teachers treated the students who scored very low marks. I remember that when I was in my fourth grade, my teacher read out the paper written by a very weak student of my class. Everybody laughed heartily at the foolish answers written by the student and the teacher thought that it was a source of entertainment. The students who scored low marks were always flogged by the teachers even when they committed silly errors. The weak students of the class were taken for granted. When the same mistake was committed by a clever student, that student was excused immediately. Clever students were only encouraged to take part in extra-ciricular activities but the weak students although were talented in other activities were not given any scope. Why are the weak students treated so badly as if they are not the part of the class? What benifit the teachers receive by committing such acts? When I watched the movie 'Taare Zameen Par', I remembered the treatment given to such students in my days.

Children are the future of the nation

Children should enjoy in their childhood days whether they are rich or poor, clever or dull and naughty or quite. When children are always underestimated by their elders, they lose the sense of confidence. Many students although they are weak in studies in their childhood become successful in the future. The son of a superstar and today's superstar of Bollywood, Abhishekh Bacchan faced dylexia, a neurological problem of learning in his childhood days but that did not deter his success in the future. A child may be weaker in studies but may be good in many other activities that can lead to succes in the future. A weak child does not bother to build his talent if he or she is constantly underestimated by his or her elders. Thomas Alva Edison who was not very intellegent in school days discovered an element that could generate light. Teachers were not very keen about him but his mother was always sure about his intellegence.

Role of parents and teachers in shaping the future

The parents play a major role in shaping the future of a child. If a student is weak in studies, the parents should analyze the strong points of a child so that they can promote them accordingly. The parents should constantly provide encouragement to the child by allowing him to follow his interests and also giving reasonable attention to his studies. The parents should also notice that the children should work hard and not necessarily pamper them. The teacher also plays a role in shaping the future. The teacher should constantly provide encouragment to such children. They should allow them to take part in the activities they are interested. They should not speak any words that cause insult to the child. They may reasonably scold them if they are not studying reasonably. But they should not unecessarily speak any rude words or treat them as if they are not the part of the class. Children grow up and turn to be young mature citizens in the future.

It is an important article raising a debate on weak students or low performers in a class room. If we take the point of view of a teacher, in a class of more than 50 or it sometimes reaches 75 also, one can't expect more attention on each and every student and he has to cover the syllabus in a stipulated time and the period would be around 45 mins. or 1 hr. Generally, in Govt schools, the categorization of students would be mixed and those who perform well would get more attention. In these days special classes are conducted to give importance to weak students.
On the other hand, the parents and students say that teachers concentrate on good performers only and weak students having not understood properly would try to spoil the concentration of others with whispers and all. Parents should take initiative and regularly interact with teachers so that their wards get more attention.
The corporate culture in education changed the scenario and led to the generation of competition in the education market. Parents throng to these schools by paying higher rate of school fees and take it as granted that their kids are going to achieve their goals. But same is the case here also. Teachers won't pay more attention on low performers because of the size of the class even though categorisation of sections would be based on performance in corporate schools.
The teachers, parents and students have to work in a close proximity to understand the core issue and sort out the problem by looking at its origin.
