In fact, there are no "official" or "formal" educational requirements to be a medical transcriptionist. Education and professional training can be availed by traditional schooling, certificate or diploma programs, distance learning, and/or on-the-job training offered in some institutes and hospitals, also there are few countries currently employing transcriptionists that require 6 months to 2 years of specialized in Medical transcriptionist training.
On the job MT training: Working in medical transcription shows professional in medical terminology, medical transcriptionist ability is to carefully listen, typing and editing accordingly, using playback controls on the transcriber (equipment) and utilizing of foot or hand pedal to play the recorded communication and adjust the dictations etc. it is all while handling a steady rhythm of its completion.
Qualification requirement for Medical transcriptionist: If you have strong communication skill in English, typing speed and willing to work in any rotational shift, you may join to get train from a reputed MT related institute or company.
Scope for Medical transcriptionist: Once training over and possible to get relevant job quickly from the training center itself, after few months or years of training, you will be called as Medical transcriptionist, once you join the related organization and when you complete certain period on your job, you may get promotion from MT trainee to MT and Sr. MT, Proof reader, Team leader or other position based on your talent outcome and the service organization. Once you got an MT position, you can even work at home as a part time along with your normal career in MT.
