Tourist spots at Jhira Narasimha Swamy Temple in Bidar

The temple of Jharani or Jhira Narasimha Swamy is located in Bidar city in the state of Karnataka. Its a unique temple in Bidar as it is located inside a cave that has a natural spring inside through which one has to wade for having a darshan of the main deity.

To reach the main deity in the temple one has to wade through this water which is up to neck deep inside the cave. There is minimum lighting inside the cave and one can see even bats hanging on the roofs of the caves. The cave has several turns with its continuous flow of water inside the cave. There are nearly seven turn. Hence this temple is also known as Water Cave Temple or Jharani Narasimha Swamy Temple.

This place is located in a picturesque valley which is full of vegetation. One has to go nearly 60 steps down from the main entrance and then reach the shrine of Lord Vinayaka i.e, Lord Ganesh. It is here that the devotees slowly step down into the water inside the cave and wade through the neck deep water. There are no railings for support also. Devotees should be very careful while walking in the water as the force of water pushes them. People take their small children on their shoulders and wade through the water.

This unique Water Cave Temple enshrines the Mool-Viraat or main deity of Lord Narasimha Swamy on the rocky wall at the end of the cave. Devotees can purchase Abhishekam tickets at the main entrance itself in case they want to perform ksheerabhishekam (pouring of milk on the main deity). The devotees are sent in groups as the cave temple is very small and cannot accomodate all the people at a time. It would be indeed an adventure and a thrilling experience as well as exciting to wade through the water in the cave.
