Best books for TANCET
Hi Friends! I have obtained a good score in ME Tancet 2011. While preparing for Tancet, I browsed for guidance online, but I could not find any much details. So, I thought to help out those eager to crack Tancet (TamilNadu Common Entrance Test) and those ambitious enough to get into top colleges.
The very first suggestion that I would give is "Please do not rely on coaching completely." Coaching classes are only meant to train yourself to complete the test within the prescribed time. But it is you who have to learn. Without learning, there is no use taking up the tests offered at coaching centers.
The books that I used were:
1. A Course in Electrical and Electronic Measurements and Instrumentation by A.K.Sawhney: This book covered most part of Measurements and Instrumentation, Transducer Engineering, Microprocessor basics, and Industrial Instrumentation. The big is huge, and this might tense you at first sight. But don't worry..you will love the book as you start reading it. Just glance through the whole book once, and use the Index behind, to look for specific topics. It is almost impossible to finish the whole book, except if you are starting preparations well in advance (say before two years.) But, even if you are starting preparations late, it is fine to look for specific topics and learn through them. Another important thing to be done is to work out the multiple choice questions pertaining to each topic. It is provided in the book, after each unit. These questions are immensely useful, and make you think.
2. Basic Electrical Engg: Prin & Appl By Kulshreshtha: This book covers all basics of Electric Circuit Analysis, Electrical Engineering, Network Theorems, and so on. The book is really informative. For those having problems understanding lectures on Network Theorems, this will be a good learning tool. Those, who make mistakes in finding circuit currents and voltages, in closed paths, can refer to this book, to know why you are not getting the right answer. There is also method called 'Maxwell's Mesh Matrix Method' in this book, that is an alternative to the Kirchoff's voltage laws to calculating current/voltage in a closed path. Do not forget to go through the 'Check your understanding' page at the end of each unit of this book.
3. Digital Communication By J.S.Chitode: It can be used to study Digital Principles, counters, shift registers, etc.
4.Pulse & Digital Circuits By U.a.bakshi: This can be used to study about Diodes and diode applications, clippers, clampers, etc.
If you have an old version of Microsoft Encarta Encylopedia CD, it can help with the fundamentals of Material Science. Microsoft has stopped selling the product 'Encarta', and hence one could find only old versions of Encarta from someone who had purchased it earlier, of 2004. I have the habit of taking notes as I learn. This makes learning more interesting for me. Try it out if you haven't tried taking notes before. Writing once is equivalent to reading ten times. All the Best!! Hope these details have helped you.
If you want to have a look at these books before purchasing them, visit books.google.com and key-in the book that you need. The books in Google Books are not downloadable. Pages are hidden, and so you can see the rest of the pages, and then consider buying the books. Else try out in a Government library. Tip: If you feel less confident of the basics of physics, maths, and think you need a revision, vist the website www.tamilnadutextbookscorporation.com and download the std 12 physics , maths, and chemistry and go through the books. The chemistry book can help you revive the concepts of cells. Tancet ME sample papers are available for download in www.estudentzone.com
