What Course To Choose After Studying Humanities In 10+2


This resource is mainly for students from humanities stream. For students from humanities stream, choices of courses after class XII are less in comparison to the students from science stream. It is mainly because all the career choices available to humanities students are also available for science students. It will help students to make a better choice of a career if they have some about options available to them.

In this article, some of the choices available for humanities students are discussed.



B.A. General and Honours courses:


It is a three years course leading to graduation. A candidate completing this course successfully can go for further studies like M.A., LLB, MBA, B.Ed or specialized diploma and PG diploma in various courses. One is also qualified to sit for various job related exams like central civil services, state civil services, graduate level exam conducted by Staff Selection Commission, Bank P.O. Exams etc.


Most of the colleges offer admission to degree course on the basis of marks of Class XII but some of the colleges and Universitys conduct entrance exams for admission to general degree courses.
Name of some of the universities are given under but it is not an exhaustive list.



Banaras Hindu University: BHU conducts Undergraduate Entrance Test (UET) in the month of May every Year. Issue of forms usually starts in the 2nd week of February and last date is within March of every year. Forms can be obtained from the University. Application can also be filed online. Details may be obtained from www.bhu.ac.in.



English & Foreign Language Univesity, Hyderadabad: Central Institute of English and Foreign Language, Hyderabad has been converted into a Unviersity by the act of Parliament. English and foreign languages are taught at its various campuses at Hyderadabad, Shillong, Lucknow. Admission to undergraduate courses is done on the basis of all India level entrance test normally held in the month of May. Application and other details can be downloaded from the university website www.efluniversity.ac.in.



Delhi University: Some of the colleges affilitiated to Delhi University have started Common Entrance Test for admission to English Hons. Called CATE (Common Aptitude Test of English). Any student with aggregate of 60% and 60% in English can apply for CATE. Application forms are issued after the declaration of Class XII CBSE result.



Presidency University, Kolkata: Applications are received online in May/June. Entrance test is conducted in June. Details may be checked at www.presidencyadmission.net.



Law:


Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) is conducted as Joint Entrance exam for admission to 5 year B.A.LlB. course offered by the following eleven law universities: NLSIU-Banglore, NALSAR-Hyderadabad, NLIU-Bhopal, NUJS-Kolkata, NLU-Jodhpur, HNLU-Raipur, GNLU-Gujarat, RMLNLU-Lucknow, RGNUL-Patiala, CNLU-Patna, NUALS-Kochi. Students obtaining 50% or above and below the age of 20 years are eligible to sit for CLAT. Availability of forms and the details schedule is advertised in the month of Jan/Feb. website www.clat.ac.in.
Some other good institute for 5 year integrated BA.Ll.B courses are Faculty of law, Allahabad University, Karnataka State Law University, Symbiosis Law College, Pune, Faculty of Law, Delhi etc.

Master of Arts:


5 Tears Integrated M.A. course in Development studies, Economics and English Studies is offered by Humanities and Social Science Department, IIT Madras. Students are selected through Humanities and Social Science Exam (HSEE) conducted every year in the month of May. No. of seats is 39. Further details may be checked in www.hss.iitm.ac.in.



B.Sc. Hotel and hospitality administration.

B.Sc. degree in Hotel and hospitality administration is conferred by National Council for Hotel management and Catering Technology which is is an autonomous body under Ministry of tourism, Govt. of India. There are at present 21 Central Govt. Colleges, 12 Sate govt. colleges and 18 Private colleges offering this course. All institute follow standarised course. Admission is through all India level Entrance test called NCHMCT JEE conducted in the month of April. Some of the colleges offering this course are, IHM, Delhi, IHM, Mumbai, CIHM, Chandigarh, IHM, Meerut etc.
Application is to be made online. Admission details are advertised in the month of February. Details may be obtained from www.nchmct.org.
Besides above, some private colleges offering degree and diploma courses in hotel management are Oberoi Centre of Learning and Development, Delhi, IHM Aurangabad, International Institute of Hotel Management, Kolkata, IIAS, Siliguri etc.


Fashion Technology, Fashion Design:

In 1986, Minitry of Textiles, Govt. of India set up National Institute of Fashion Technology. It has now become a premier institute of design management and technology having campuses at various places like Delhi, Bangalore, Bhopal, Kolkata, Patna. 4 year bachelor's degree in various fashion design, textile design, accessories design, apparel production etc. are offered. Admission notification is issued in November and application is to be made by early January. Admission is made on the basis of written test, aptitude test and personal interview. Other courses like B.B.A., B.C.A., B. Journalism are also availbale nowadays.



There are many options available nowadays. A well informed choice after considering the future prospect of the course and one's aptitude will lead to a successful career.

Well, there are some fields you missed out.Students who had opted for humanities for +2 can join defence forces.Now there is eligibility criteria for this. Boys can join defence forces after their +2,but for girls they have to complete their graduation first and then only they are eligible to join.

Mass communication can also be opted as career.There are various other opportunities too.
you can become a dj,or work at a fm radio station by "rj"ing,
you can take up courses to ba a vj,and if you are artistic and have creativity you can become a photographer(wildlife), you can also be a journalist.

See many options i have listed. So my friend never say there is lack of opportunity in any field,because opportunities are created by you if you are that intelligent.
