Human resource development is one of the primary activities of the National Institute for the Mentally Handicapped (NIMH), Secunderabad. It offers long-term and short-term programmes from certificate to post-graduate levels with a view to prepare s and parents for serving mentally challenged persons. This resource endeavours to describe such training programmes.
Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India, established National Institute for the Mentally Handicapped (NIMH) at Secunderabad (Andhra Pradesh) in 1984. This apex body is engaged in multifarious activities like human resource development, research and community based rehabilitation. The Institute develops models of care and rehabilitation of the mentally handicapped persons, provides consultancy to voluntary organisations and also documents and disseminates information related to mental disability.Human Resource Development Programmes:
NIMH is an ISO 9001:2008 certified Institute and offers both long-term and short-term training programmes with a view to develop human resource to cater to the need of the mentally challenged persons. A wide variety of programmes from certificate to post-graduate level are offered, covering freshers, professionals and even parents to enable them to serve the mentally challenged efficiently and skillfully. Many of these programmes are offered at the campus of the Innstitute at Secundrabad but a few are offered at its Regional Centres also.A. Long-term Training Programmes:
1. M. Phil. in Rehabilitation Psychology:
Eligibility: M.A. / M.Sc. degree in Psychology from a UGC recognised University with a minimum of 55% marks and in the case of SC/ST/OBC category a minimum of 50/% marks in aggregate.

(vi) have a minimum of two years' experience in a special school environment in any disability area after graduation.
